In Service of Death (DCI Logan Crime Thrillers Book 17)

Heâs done it again
Book 17 in the series and it not only doesnât disappoint I think they just get better and better. Maybe, itâs because I feel like I know Logan and everyone and whilst I always enjoy the plots I actually really enjoy the development of the characters since book one. The plot was very good with a heck of a twist which I wouldnât dream of spoiling for anyone but I didnât see that coming. Glad Hoon made an appearance (yes I have read all 4 Hoon books so I am a fan). I think itâs a real skill to be able to write a good crime novel but also have humour - and at times I really laughed out loud much to my husbands amusement. The characters are all different but I love them all and have a real emotional attachment to them so the book also made me emotional. If you have never read any of the Logan books then why not and you could read this without having read the other 16 but I donât know why you would. Read book one and I can guarantee you will follow with all the other 16 very quickly. Only negative, as usual I couldnât put it down so finished it at 23:00 hours and now Iâve got to wait for the next instalment. Well done J.D Kirk yet again you have excelled

Brilliant service.
Another stunningly good story. What a team with Logan at the head. Plot? Oh if you must. Neish is back from maternity leave. First day back and a window cleaner sees a corpse. Over to the team. We have a lovely mix of ancient guilt, vengeance, kidnapping of a cop. Who? Oh, go on guess!. Who else? Torture, jokes, Sinead and Hoon, that unlikely pairing off to the rescue, Ben courting, the new female pc endlessly rabbitting on, a murderer on the run, and Logan battered in body and heart....The villain has the nerve to hurt Taggart. Oh, no, not the dog! Then at the end a touch of romance for Ben and storm clouds on the horizon for Logan. The dread child Olivia, daughter of the Russian crime boss, in distress, is snug in his home and, I predict, destined to remain there. Great stories to come. Please hurry. I need another Logan fix.

Always delivers
This book, like every single book in this series, has a good strong story line, with numerous sub plots that gets you reading more quickly to get back to the cliff edge (hypothetically) that one of the team is dangling over. And all the while the serious stuff is going on, the humorous dialogue makes me laugh out loud. A tv company should take a look at these books and serialise them and if they get the right mix of seriousness and humour it would be a massive success and could even attain cult status. I would love to see the characters come to life on screen especially if they could work with a script as skilfully written as the books, which can make you smile, laugh and even draw a tear. J D Kirk reminds me, in so many ways, of the late and great John Sullivan, with his ability to create lovable characters, even the roguish ones, and share the limelight amongst them all.

Literally the BEST
DCI Logan isn't a fictitious character courtesy of that Scottish wordsmith JD Kirk, he is family. As is the whole team. I have read every one many times over. Never was violent death so entertaining and comforting. I didn't pre-order and devour it. Oh no, I pre-ordered and am saving it for a special occasion (as long as it's within 2 weeks đ). A new book is a massive deal. I'm a prolific crime reader. I have a book on the go constantly but DCI Logan is a different matter. And if he ever becomes hitched, you should all know that he preferred me but couldn't face the travelling. If any of you consider the Audible version, leap right in 'cos Angus King is the master.

Excellent...
Another belter from JD Kirk and his trusty team of officers. The stories are always good and this is no exception. There's just the right amount of humour complementing the gruesome subject matter and the way the characters have developed from the first book is great to see. In this book, a window cleaner's unfortunate job leads to a tale of murder and mayhem that twists and turns its way to the end with a big, "I didn't see THATcoming" thrown in for good measure (well, I didn't see it!). Sinead & Tyler are juggling parenthood, Hoon's vocabulary is as colourful as ever and the newest member of the team, Tammi-Jo, gets a nickname. I think I spotted an upcoming change in circumstances for DCI Logan and Shona too but I'll have to wait until the next book to find out. đ I thoroughly recommend this (and the others).

A Brilliant Read - Buy This
Warning! You won't want to put this book down. So reserve a day and meet all of J.D.Kirk's brilliant characters. They all get to play a part here, but Tyler Neish fans get an extra large helping of their favourite DC.The action level is high and there are plenty of surprises. I won't spoil your fun and say too much, but i feel sure you will be holding your breath often. J.D.Kirk's cliff-hangers at the end of chapters ensure you'll be turning the pages. The only sad thing is we need to wait a while for Kirk's next book now. But there's more from Alex Smith and David J. Gatward to look forward to.Buy "In Service of Death." I very much doubt if you'll be disappointed.

The best series. Bar none.
Crime fiction doesnât get better.Kirk blends gritty crime fiction, a magnificent sense of place, and the most perfectly realised characters youâll read anywhere.Snappy, always believable and often hilarious dialogue - the quality of which is unmatched - propels the story forward, engrossing the reader completely.Donât start here though; read book one (âA Litter of Bonesâ) and read the lot, one after the other. As much as this is magnificent as a stand alone, itâs woven with in-jokes and âEaster eggsâ that elevate it to the very highest levels, for those whoâve read the series.Seriously, buy this book. But ALL his books. You canât go wrong.
