New forms of expression in the 20th century
The essays in this tome are NOT easy reading... but if one feels the compulsion to gain a grasp over HOW a significant number of serious Artists felt and thought about WHY each one tried to achieve something meaningful from their efforts, this book might be worth slogging through over a period of months and months.I recommend reading an essay... pausing to think... reading it again... Then moving on to another one. Can be read back to front just as rewardingly as front to back... Stopping to read other critics in the midst of an essay made sense to me...I'd be curious to see what other essays serious readers might recommend... I nominate Paul Klee's "Thinking Eye" and Gabo's "O Diverse Arts"!
