The diameter at the end of the lighter is about the size of of a pencil. Hope this helps, I have both. The flexible one and the smaller non flexible model.

Hello, thanks for reaching out. This lighter uses butane fuel like one's supplied by the brand Ronson. The fuel is in a canister (like a mini spray paint can), and has a little nozzle which fills the lighter's tank. Search for: Ronson Universal Lighter Refill Ultra Butane Ronson Multi-Fill Ultra Butane Fuel A CVS drugstore, hardware store, BBQ specialty store, cigar/tobacco specialty store would have this. Yes, there are instructions to make this lighter work. I have both. Just remember to UNSCREW the back of the lighter wher replacing the battery. (Dont force it open). Let me know if you need any help.
