Yes. Medium. I’m about that size and I wear a medium.

Q: Im 5'8" 29/30 waist 160pds athletic - would small be too small and or would medium be too big?

I'm 6'0, 180 with a 32 inch waist. I have the medium and they fit comfortably without tying the drawstrings. Small would probably fit you just fine.
