The Hollow Hills (Volume 2) (A Goblyn Wood Adventure) Paperback – 26 Oct. 2023

My son and I have greatly been looking forward to the next instalment of Hazel's adventures in Goblyn Wood. We love the first book's beautiful, atmospheric world, full of magic, wonder, and complex webs of memory and emotion - and we were entranced by The Hollow Hills from the first page. Anna Kemp's portrayal of the Knoll, dominion of the Fae, is absolutely gorgeous - the reader falls into this dreamlike, magical world along with Hazel, in Kemp's sumptuous prose. As the narrative continues, familiar characters return from book 1, alongside intriguing new ones, and Kemp brings the cast of characters beautifully to life, exploring themes of friendship, loyalty, and loss, alongside broader questions about power, division, humans and others, and the world we live in. The book provoked so many ideas and questions in my 8-year-old's mind - about family, bereavement, war, politics, and the earth/environment. These are never brought to the fore in an obvious way in the book, but Kemp's fairy world lends itself so suggestively to the kinds of metaphors that can capture the imagination of children of this age. The adventure builds brilliantly towards the end of the book, with plenty of surprises along the way - we can't wait to read the next one!

This is a gorgeous book with beautiful, writing, fascinating characters and an exhilarating adventure which both kids and adults will love! Anna Kemp has created a rich faery world in Goblyn Wood and we can't wait for the next book.

My kids (8 and 10 years old) and I loved this book. It's a perfectly paced adventure: totally gripping, with lots of suspense woven into the story. The descriptions are fantastic, creating a vivid sense of a series of beautiful, magical places. Courage, integrity and friendship are right at the heart of this book. We see Hazel's struggles, and how love and loyalty give her strength. Exciting, heartwarming, and fun. I'm looking forward to the sequel!

This is such an exciting book! My son loved the first book in the series and can't put this one down. The pace is dramatic and the illustrations are beautiful. We can't wait for the final one!!

Hoorah! It is wonderful to re-enter the exciting world of Goblyn Wood with Hazel and Pete in this brilliant sequel: The Hollow Hills. Straight away the reader is transported back into Anna Kemp’s beautifully crafted and vivid world of fairies, goblins and magic. The adventure unfolds at a cracking pace but the writing still leaves opportunities for the reader to use their own imaginations and keep on guessing what will happen next with delicious anticipation. Hazel and Pete need to be brave, strong and true while they fight for their homes, neighbourhood and way of life. This book is an excellent example of showing the peril of what can happen when we are full of greed and do not care for each other. I thoroughly recommend this series if your children like to read about magic, adventure and friendship.

My kids really enjoyed Goblyn Wood , so we were all excited when Book 2 was released. We listened together on audiobook and weren't disappointed. My kids loved Hollow Hills from start to finish. They were totally engrossed ....and so was I! There are many twists and turns in the story which ensures there is never a dull moment. At the same time, the characters grow, develop and feel alive.Can't wait to find out how events unfold in Book 3.

The Hollow Hills is the 2nd in Kemp's incredible series-and I loved it just as mulch as the first one-if not more! Wonderfully told, full of beautiful, thoughtful characters and ideas. This book (like the first one) is incredibly imaginative and vividly told. Hazel's world is almost palpable, I felt like I could smell and touch the imagery. I rolled certain phrases around in my mouth for ages. It is truly a wonderful series and not just for children!
