Kinda Works...
Don't expect miracles.

Works with the essence of urinal cake.
I don't understand how that amount of wintergreen oil is an inactive ingredient but they list it as such. We have some pretty voracious mosquitoes here, I walk the dogs with one on each wrist and I do still see mosquitoes. I'm not super bothered by them but they will still try and bite. This one little ball stinks to high heaven though. You can walk by my patio on the outside of my apartment and smell it about 15 ft away. My entire house smells like them, the common area outside my front door and my garage. It's safe to say that any mosquito will smell them as well. I don't know how long they work but I do know they are very profound in scent. It smells a lot like the stuff that used to clean up vomit in the first grade if that rings any bells.

Sort of not really worked
My front door is in a cove which mosquitoes love to hang out in. It’s away from the sun and wind. Every time I open my door I am greeted by several blood thirsty bugs. I wanted something that would keep them away. I put one in the wreath on the front door and another one on the ground by the door. I circled the ball and a mosquito on the door. There aren’t as many but there are still some. So it kind of worked but not to the level I need.

They work and I only used two balls.
Like everyone else we are experiencing higher mosquito populations this year after all the torrential rains we've had in California. So I decided to give these a shot and I'm super glad I did. As soon as I open the package I could smell the scent and it's not unpleasant it's actually kind of nice. Anyhow it says to set these around the area where you would like to control the mosquitoes. I also read another reviews how some of the balls turn up missing and perhaps crows or critters or maybe kiddos have grabbed them and taking them from their vintage points. So I went and bought two tea balls, that one would buy to make hot tea. And found they fit perfectly inside the t-balls now I can attach these wherever I want and hang them if I'd like. I have one inside my camper van and ever since we haven't seen mosquitoes. I placed one outside my camper van sliding door and even after leaving the door open all evening we didn't see a single mosquito enter the van. I'm sold! When I'm not using the product I put both t-balls with the essential oil mosquito balls inside of a plastic zipped bag. This seems to have made these two mosquito deterrent balls last longer. In fact I'm still using the first two I've removed from the package and they are still highly effective. Anyhow I'll provide a picture for those who are interested. Good product and worth the money

Actually works!
We purchased these bc the mosquitoes were horrible on our back porch and yard. Within minutes of putting these out, mosquitoes were gone. We had the same ones out for maybe 2 weeks and we are noticing they may need to be changed out within the next week. But they are still working pretty good. I highly recommend if you have a mosquito problem. The smell is strong but it’s not a bad smell at all.

Mosquitos aren't deterred by all 8 in one place...
...which is on a low table right by my patio door. I think they smell bad. Mosquitos whiz right past them into my house whenever I put my dogs and cat outside. They are plentiful and waiting (the mosquitos). I tried 4, then 6, and then the whole bag full (the last 2) in a matter of just several days. No effect that I could notice.Bug zapper octenol does ATTRACT mosquitos at a distance from my house. I hoped these were reverse octenol, so to speak! I had hoped to use them in two groups of four, switching out the old about halfway through the Summer.40% of the reviewers here just love these. Almost as many give them ONE star. The five star reviewers must be enjoying the placebo effect: I had mosquitos, now not as bad. Only one cause: It must be those stinky balls.

Seems to work.
Very strong smell and seems to work since the amount of mosquitos seem to have decreased significantly.
