Exercises using classic rockabilly tracks is a major plus
There aren't many books on rockabilly guitar techniques available so one has to hope that those on the market are useful and informative. Well, this one is. It's not too technical and the instructions are very clear. I wouldn't recommend it for an absolute beginner but there's quite a lot of material and techniques covered in this book which are within reach of someone who's relatively new to guitar playing. A major plus as far as I'm concerned is the use of several well-known rockabilly' rock and roll tracks for the exercises, such as Milk Cow Blues, Train Kept a Rollin', Get Rhythm and Rock Around the Clock. This is much more fun and much more motivating than playing stuff "in the style of", or bland exercises. A very good book.

A Light Primer
The book itself is fine but it is only very short and aimed at the beginner. It starts with the basics of what type of guitars are used in rockabilly and a little bit of history then moves on to 12 bar blues in A and some strumming patterns. This takes up the first couple of chapters and about 1/4 of the book. After this it goes on to looking at walking baselines and some 'Travis' picking patters (though very simple). It also looks at some classic solos and picks up on the differences between the blues based ideas and the more jazz angled view. For me this is what I was looking for and wanted a lot more of this and some more in-depth analysis of what is happening.Overall it's an OK book but not really enough to get your teeth in to. If you are just learning guitar it should offer some nice ideas but if you know your blues scales and can improvise a bit there won't be much to keep you interested.

rockabillytastic
There is a wide range of rockabilly stuff to get your head and fingers into in this package, beginning with the basics, through different classic songs and up to even a bit of mad psychobilly! The TAB is nice and clear and the guitaring on the cd is played sparkingly clear. However, since I will never be the next Carl Perkins or James Burton, I would have appreciated slow versions of each piece. This product is excellent value for money and will provide hours and hours of challenging fun.

Train Kept a Rolling
I've been messing about on the guitar for ages but without any direction so I bought this book to try to have some focus and a goal. It's a fun book, with lots of great rock'n'roll and rockabilly songs to learn. The tabs are clear and easy to follow.
