Decades after a smaller travel chess set probably ended up deep in a landfill, I decided to try again.This Palm Royal chess set is of high quality.The rosewood board is as smooth as glass, and beautifully finished.The chess pieces are well-made.The magnets on the bases of the pieces are not very strong and the pieces slide off if the board is tilted at much of an angle, but this will not affect normal play. I don't know why anyone would play chess with a board tilted at an angle anyway.

The woodwork is amazing. The natural imperfections in the wood let’s you know it was handmade! Great work!

Well impressed, for the price this is a very good chess set. Small enough to travel with and large enough to play with. The pieces are well crafted and look good. I highly recommend this chess set.

I was worried that 7" x 7" would be too small & contemplated 10" x 10" for quite some time. But 7x7 isn't too small. On the contrary its very handy and portable.The pieces are nicely carved and very clearly differentiable. They are of good quality. The board too is of good quality.On the flip side, the magnet on board is weak in some places and pieces fall off from those areas. The storage space also appears far from perfect and could have been much better/cleaner. These 2 points made me give 4 stars instead of 5.Otherwise overall a good product and I will buy again if required in future for gifting.
