Don't use in isolation!
I am not an experienced walker but nor am I stupid or unresourceful. My take is that with our relentless weather battering the landscape continually, such books are bound to be unreliable/ become quickly outdated. Paths become eroded or obscured, signposts are removed. I have recently had the experience of getting lost and having to bother a farmer for directions. He told us he had many lost walkers coming to his door. The first half of the walk was fine but the second half a complete farce. My friend and I ended up climbing an extremely steep gradient hill because the path we were looking for was invisible except from above. Fortunately we are fairly fit and it wasn't a problem. Obviously respect for the terrain and the weather/light is paramount but I would advise walkers to use up to date OS maps and a compass in conjunction with any such book. The book does specify which maps are relevant. Use them!

This is the same book as 'Peak district walks'
I bought this thinking it would contain different walks (obviously can't really see on line what walks are in there) and found it had exactly the same walks as the book I already had called 'Peak district walks' 2015. So if you want a more up to date version of that book then this is fine as last updated 2020 but I do feel that the title should be the same.Having said which, I have found the pathfinder series to be excellent normally. I just wanted to warn people.

Excellent guide
We have an old dog and a puppy, so we can't do heroically long walks at the moment, but we were far from disappointed with the walks in this book, several of which were not only the perfect length, but also perfect for walking dogs of any age, being free from annoying stiles! Easy to follow instructions, fantastic views - all round an excellent book.

Worth getting this book just for one walk alone
Am always sceptical about titles that say things like 'outstanding' but in this case, the walk we undertook was certainly that. Walk 19 Biggin and Biggin Dale was varied in terrain, stunning, peaceful and certainly outstanding. We did not not get lost and thats brilliant. Instructions were clear and correct. One tip at point E you do not need to go through gate but take a much improved path by the NT that runs parallel to the path suggested. You can of course still take this path as it leads to the same point.

Great overview
This book is more of an overview of each of the walks in the Peak District, it will give you a review and the stats you need but if you want a detailed view of the walks then this is not for you. This is a guide for what walk to do and then you need to get a map.

pathfinder = the best
pathfinder are the best and most reliable. have tried other books which get us lost due to ambiguous instructions. pathfinder are mostly clear instructions and stick mostly to recognised trails. no more getting lost! :-)

Really enjoying these walks
This is a great guide.My only complaints are that it assumes you are getting everywhere by car and sometimes underplays how difficult the routes are. Like - every walk so far there's been a bit where one wrong foot would have resulted in serious injury!

Perfect for the weekend walker.
A well written and compiled selection of walks for recreational hill walkers . It’s not perfect and I think the experienced hillwalker will feel short changed.
