This product is a medium powered microscope that displays its image on a large video monitor which hangs over a large work area. There are small trays and compartments on this horizontal platform, as this type of microscope is meant to help with very small jobs such as working on a computer chip or working with jewels. Although the platform is designed for that type of project-based use, it is also perfectly fine for kids to experiment with leaves, bugs, foods, etc to get unique close-ups in an effort to understand science.This microscope also contains a small remote control which allows adjustment of the scope without having to look through it and twist things around like a regular microscope, especially without being able to visualize what you're doing. That is perfect for someone who has to get a clear focus quickly, while monitoring what you're looking at.If you work in small items such as jewelry, electronics, or even some botanical sciences, this is a great way to stop eye strain and headaches, and monitor your work closely while also being more aware of what you're doing with your hands. This is great and has really helped. The picture quality is good, and it's easy to set up and use. It's perfect for what we need.

Couple of things - this thing stays zoomed in very far. I thought maybe I could modify the arm to be longer so I could zoom out, might have done that and just moved on except for the next point. The color is not good. Whites all look to be washed out blue. Greens look to be blue-green. I even have some software I can use to correct color but I wasn't able to compensate for the bad color. This applies to both the included monitor and to the PC monitor when in webcam mode. I think some work needs to be done. Even if the color wasn't a problem, if you have to solder on anything that isn't just a flat PCB board, you are not going to have any room to work as the maximum clearance with the camera moved up as far as possible is only 3½ inches (8.5 cm). So a one inch thick soldering project leaves you with 2½ inches to work in. Anything thicker, forget it. Think this needs to go back.

Loved the silicon mat for soldering, but without zoom, the image has too much magnification to hunt for parts or to even see the entirety of parts as small as SOIC8. If they add a zoom feature, this would be an excellent product!
