Possible replacement for smokers who want to quit!
I got these for hubby in an effort to get him to quit, or at least cut down, his bad habits of smoking and of chewing plastic straws. Both are bad for teeth (and health!) and smoker's breath is gross, but they are stress relievers, he says. I know he tries to refrain once home from construction sites, but it's not always easy. These Miswak sticks are a traditional, natural, and healthy hand-to-mouth substitute!!Simply scrape off an inch of the bark from one end, rinse stick, and chew. We both think the taste is very mild - reminds me a little of parsnip or burdock root. For oral hygiene, once that scraped, chewed end has formed bristles, scrub the teeth. Apparently Miswak can have a teeth whitening effect if used as a brush, and naturally contains vitamin C and fluoride. (It's very commonly used in the Middle East and northern Africa.)For stress relief or quitting smoking (or snacking, for that matter), Hubby keeps chewing on it for as long as he likes, but does have to spit out bits of fiber every now and then. Still, it curbs his need for chewing plastic, keeps him from putting a cig in his mouth, and freshens his breath at the same time. It's also much more satisfying for him that chewing gum, as he can bite down hard and swallow whatever juices. Plus, the ability to clamp it in his teeth seems to offload some tension, and keeps his hands free to continue working. He takes the whole stick out the vacuum-sealed wrapper (but keeps it to put the stick back for later) but could just as easily chew on the end while keeping it in the wrapper at the same time.Later, or the following day, simply cut off the chewed end, scrape off some more bark, and make a new start until the stick is chewed out. Not for everyone here, perhaps, but it's doing the trick for now!

I tried
I tried but I could not get past the smell, texture, or taste. Nice concept though.

Not for me
I could not find anything positive to say about these. I posted a picture of the ingredients and it is full of preservatives, so I peeled off the outer layer before chewing, hoping that would remove most of them, but the stick was really unchewable, you just get a mouthful of soft splinters, maybe it’s because I peeled the outer layer, but it was not good. The taste is somewhat like mild horseradish, but not at all spicy. I tossed these, not good.

miswak, Arabic dental health
These arrived individually wrapped in a plastic bag, not the box pictured in the description. I got these for my Syrian husband who grew up in the Middle East using these to clean teeth. You have to peel off the outer layer to get the antibacterial qualities. My husband enjoyed these. They have English and Arabic and were made in Pakistan.

Wow I'm impressed
I am very big on taking care of my teeth and had not heard of this before but thought I'd give it a try because again I want my teeth healthy. This is a great alternative and can be uses while traveling, people who don't like mint or toothpaste, backpacking, etc. You just trim a little bit of the outside bark and chew it and it makes almost bristles like a toothbrush. Then you can suck on it, chew it or brush with it. I did all the above. I did not swallow it and not sure if you're supposed to but it left my teeth feeling very clean. The other great thing is this does not hurt the environment like plastic toothbrushes and toothpaste tubes do. The taste is what you would expect from a root but not bad. You can trim it and get many uses from 1 stick.

Did not like it
An interesting concept but could not adapt to the weird taste of the miswak stick. Did not like the fibers falling apart in my mouth. Threw the rest away.

Well… ummm… no
I guess these work fine if you like to have the bristle fibers coming apart in your mouth. It’s harder to clean each tooth with this. I think I’ll stick to my regular toothbrush. I think it’s good for short camping days for emergencies or something like that. Other than that, I’ll keep my tooth brush.
