Introduction to Optics

A must for any degree physics student
Bought this book for my lad who is currently in his 2nd year of an undergraduate MSc in Physics at Nottingham Univ and was told that this is the basic text book for the Physics course on Optics/light.Although I haven't passed it on I have had a quick look through and it is well laid out and covers an incredible amount of matter on the subject of Light and Optics (good section on Holography). Lots and lots of maths so not for the fainthearted. This will be a must for any Physics Students bookshelf, or like me anyone who has a love of physics, a reasonable maths and physics grounding and enjoys reading deeper in to the subject.

Great purchase for students in optics.
All you need to study optics from high school to PhD.Some part may be complicate for people with no knowledge in mathematics as matrix and complex algebra,an important part is explained at the begining of each chapter to remind topics needed in the chapter.Definetely a must-buy for students in optics.

I would recommend that. Ex
If you can find an earlier version of this, I would recommend that. Ex. the table of content, which before had a somewhat detailed list of the different topics, has now been replaced with a list of only the chapter titles. This is however just a little thing, but there are many of such, which contributes to the fact, that this version is rather confusing to read.

Great Textbook w/ Wonderful Diagrams
This text is required for our two introductory optics classes, Geometrical Optics and Physical Optics. My classmates and I have found the text to be excellent - it explains things very thoroughly and has detailed diagrams. There are tons of exercises at the end of each chapter that really help with understanding and application. I do wish that it had more example problems worked within the text, but that doesn't diminish the value of the book and is more of a personal preference.
