Great compilation of the beach boys early hits. What is there not to love about these talented guys ? This is one of their very early hits compilation. But still good

I couldnt believe i managed to get this cd it was for my husband when we were courting he had it in his car but it was a tape so being able to get it on Cd was amazing .xIts brilliant quality and came well packaged .

My dad had this Beach Boys LP on vinyl, which I used to play over and over on my record player. I have been meaning to purchase it myself for ages on CD - which I have finally got round to doing. Should have done it before! Just as good as the vinyl version. I love all these songs.

This was the album my Dad would play in the car, and it instantly takes me back to the 70's, and those long hot summers! Still the perfect album to have in the car. I'm so glad to have this unmastered version - you can actually hear the entire range of frequencies. Almost as good as the vinyl!

I used this Beach Boys CD to play their music on my CD player. Everything went according to plan!

Aside from a couple of hits, the balance of the songs are different, and not necessarily in a good way. A couple of the songs seem to be mediocre fillers but others are just different, and likely will grow on people with multiple listenings. These are just my initial thoughts, this album could grow on me but I suspect not.

このアルバムはシングル･ヒット曲に始まり、ビーチ･ボーイズの前作「FRIENDS」よりも多少あか抜けて、パワーアップしたところがある。何度も聴くと香ばしさが肥えてくる、そんな作品だ。アコースティック･サウンドの「I CAN HEAR MUSIC」、「BE WITH ME」の壮大さは良い。3曲目のリード･ギターのフランジャーをかけた速弾きは、ビートルズのホワイト･アルバム（エリック･クラプトン）のお返しのように聴こえた。だが5曲目で騒々しいロックン･ロールのハードなヴォーカルは要らないか。さて、ここからが極めつけだ。「ザ･ニアレスト･ファーラウェイ･プレイス」は、素晴らしいインストゥルメンタルだ。これは準メンバーのブルース･ジョンストンの作で、ピアノも彼自身の演奏と。以後、「コットン･フィールズ」もカントリー風で、8曲目は控えめな優しめの曲。だが何といっても、本作の中で一番のハイライトは「タイム･トゥ･ゲット･アローン」だろう。心が休まる。俗世間から離れて歩もうという詩が美しい。次の10曲目。前述の「BE WITH ME」の作者デニス･ウィルソンが、前作「FRIENDS」からまた存在感を出していると思う。同曲と次曲「OUR PRAYER」のハーモニーは、間違いなくビートルズの「アビー･ロード」のレコードのB面に影響を与えていると思う。そして、本作レコードでは最後の「キャビネッセンス」は、幻のアルバム「スマイル」の断片、未発表曲だ。素朴で、幻想的な流れるような曲。歌詞の”カラスとトウモロコシ畑”のところは、確かに意味不明で、この為に作詞の共作者のヴァン･ダイク･パークスはスタジオから追い出されてしまう。マイク･ラヴの気持ちはわかるか･･･？それも重なって「スマイル」の制作は頓挫して、日の目を見るのは実に37～38年後になる。尚、ボーナス･トラックにはシングルの「ブレイク･アウェイ」とそのB面曲が収録されている。その13．はよい曲だと思うが、本作「20/20」とは別ものではないか･･･これは、CD盤の再発に際しての追加付録だろうが、貴重な収録であろう。

[経緯]某雑誌の山下達郎さんのラジオ番組の特集を読んで、メンバーだったブルースジョンストンが紹介されて気になったから。[感想]ブルースジョンストンと言えば超名曲「disney girl」が大好きでしたので、当アルバムに収録されているブルースジョンストンの「the nearest faraway place」がハイライトだと思いました。流麗で、優しくて、どこか寂しい。そんなピアノのインストです。ただ個人的には「disney girl 」に軍配です。
