An Enjoyable and Intriguing Book
It is better to read An Island Mystery Book 1, The Body on the Beach, first but not necessary. I read Death on the Beach first and the author did a good job of introducing the characters so you didn't feel lost. I am currently reading Book 1 and find it as enjoyable as Death on the Beach. The author gives a personal connection to the this lesser known area of Germany and its people. There are multiple small stories around the main plot with the characters presenting their realistic pluses and minuses. The main character struggles with her emotions, decisions and brilliance which is extremely well done.

Great Escape Read---Fast-paced Murder Thriller!
Strong follow-up detective story to Book 1, but as a new murder mystery, it can also be read as a standalone novel. The fast-paced storyline follows Detective Inspector Lena Lorenzen from CID in Kiel, Germany, as she leverages her no nonsense and tough-minded investigative skills to this intense drama to find the murderer of a fourteen-year-old girl on an isolated German island. Lena is a complex character to understand, one of the reasons she so indomitable with her work and challenged with her personal life. A focused police professional every step of the way, Lena pushes her boundaries to the limit to get answers. She suspects everyone, trusts few, but has strong sensitivities to the feelings and motives of other. The author's focused and chronologically paced storytelling creates a suspenseful police procedural plotline with too many suspects, patchy evidence, and a rushed timeline to satisfy her boss. This book is hard to put down but short enough to make the fast reading journey a great "escape read" with no strings attached. The crisp dialogue and tight narrative sticks to the murder plotline with only some backstory elements that support the major storyline. The characters are well developed as the plot thickens and too many questions keep arising.Liked the first book, but enjoyed this one even more. I appreciated the author's spare use of foul language and tastefully brief accounts of intimate situations and sexual crimes.Hats off to the expert translation that included enough general Germany terms to identify the local, while creating a strong seamless English storyline. Kudos too for Audible's engaging story narration that adds so much to my reading experience.I hope this series has more installments with this strong and believable female character.

Well written and translated, loved area description and character development
An interesting mystery with a totally unfamiliar setting. The author did a wonderful job describing the area which I would love to visit. I also enjoyed her first book in the series and hope there are more as I would love to see what happens to these characters

Good procedural mystery in an interesting setting.
Well drawn characters. Romantic plot line woven throughout keeps pace with the mystery. Climax a bit contrived. Promise of more series.

Second book in a great series.
Inspector Lena is once again called to the beautiful sea islands off the Frisian coast to solve the murder of a 14 year old girl. Like the first book, this is a well plotted story with believable, complex characters & a setting you can almost see & smell. I really hope the author continues with more - I really want to know what happens next in Lena's life. A great read.

Wonderful reading experience
This second book, in what I hope in a long series, was a page turner. It starts with a missing teenager that morphs into a murder. What caused this young women to be murdered in such a way is the driving force of this story which delves into religious beliefs that run contrary with the inhabitants of an island off the coast of Germany. The hunt for the killer keeps you on the edge of your seat, the writing is sharp and the characters well defined. I highly recommend this book.

Very good reading
My first introduction to author Anna Johannsen and I was immediately interested in reading more about the northern German islands setting for this series. Another interesting facet was the Mennonite factor which I would not have considered, but became the center of the story. A young woman is missing and found dead on the beach. Suicide or ?? It takes a very astute and able woman detective and her team to determine exactly what happened.

Great Series
I really enjoy this mystery series set in the Frisian islands. The main character is a female police detective who works on the island to solve local cases but also deals with the larger police community. It’s part procedural and part cozy with more procedural. It’s not necessary to read the first in the series to understand the background but that’s also a very enjoyable start to the series. If you enjoy the Viveca Sten Swedish mysteries I think you’ll enjoy this series as well with the island setting and strong female detective in common. Hope they translate more soon!

Brilliant characters!
To begin with, I was hesitant with regard to reading this and the first book in the series, due to the fact that they are translated from German. However I certainly didn't have to worry! The books are beautifully written, allowing the reader to be able to picture the scene being described in detail. The deck chairs on the beach, drinking wine etc. Very descriptive. The characters are described in detail too, along with their homes, clothes, cars, and even the food!I do hope that Anna Johannsen will be adding to this series, as I really enjoy all the characters and the on going struggle the main character is having with her emotions and her personal life! It's intriguing!Thank you for the enjoyment of reading these two books.

Second book even better than the first
I look forward to reading the third in this series, should there be one. Very frustrated by her reticence regarding Erck, but I can also relate to it.

Great Whodunnit
This is the second book I have read from this author and it has been translated extremely well. I am looking forward to the next in this series. The setting of these novels is so crucial to the plot. My one small criticism is that it would be a breath of fresh air to read about a female protagonist who doesn't continually self sabotage her love life!

It makes you want to explore these islsnds
The characters are very engaging and the description of the area is so good that it is easy to envisage. The plot is complicated, which makes you keep reading.
