Delicious!
Living in Houston, Texas, we are challenged by the threat of hurricanes every year. Besides preparing in advance to meet the dangers of wind and water, we must prepare to face brutal heat, lack of electrical power, lack of clean water, and food shortages. What can we buy that will not spoil? At the suggestion of a safety director, I first tried SeaBear Ready-To-Eat Smoked Sockeye Salmon this year, and I love it!SeaBear Ready-to-Eat Sockeye Salmon was recommended to me as a "hurricane survival food" with a shelflife of about 4 years. Of course, it is routinely sold to the rest of the world as a delicacy -- and it is. I now eat this ready-to_eat salmon about once a month or so as a treat (with Triscuits or mixed with a little mayo and celery as a salad). It should be mentioned that the salmon comes out of the packet looking pretty much like raw smoked fish -- not like the highly perishable, "sleek-looking" salmon that one sees at expensive breakfast buffets. (By the way, this kind of salmon can be bought at the SeaBear website.) It doesn't look like canned commercial salmon from the grocery store, either -- not pale pink. It is a moist, red or dark-red, rich, smoked salmon that looks very "authentic." The texture is firm, moderately oily, and perfectly seasoned with a smoky taste that is not overpowering. You should experiment with this salmon before serving to guests to be sure that you like the appearance.Since eating too much smoked food is not recommended, I limit my portions when I am not concerned about storms. At the SeaBear site, you can buy different kinds of salmon and other products, and perhaps they offer salmon that hasn't been smoked, as well.I am a picky eater "when it comes to fish," and I love this salmon!

Full Flavor!
Wow! The flavor is amazing! We made a Smoked Trout Salad. This product is my fave. I have had two other smoked trout before this one. Can't go wrong with this one. Worth it!

Quick, easy, tasty meal
These salmon packets are fantastic for lunch on the go. We use them with salads, in sandwiches, stirred into individual mac and cheese, on crackers or toast, or just by themselves. They're great for quick meals on the road. This is pure food, without the harmful additives of most processed foods. Shelf-stable until opened, they're convenient to take along in the car, suitcase or backpack. We've ordered for many years from SeaBear, and they've never disappointed.

Love it
UPDATE: two years later, this is still some of the best salmon I've ever had. I eat it weekly. It's far better than most fresh store-bought salmon (most of which is "Atlantic" which means farmed rather than wild-caught). One thing I've discovered is that, while this is delicious straight from the bag at room temperature, it's even better if you run the sealed bag under hot water for a minute or so before eating it. That really brings out the flavor, and helps the delicious natural oil to mix in with the meat.Original review:I wasn't sure what this salmon would be like. I saw it recommended on a site listing portable paleo-friendly food, so I gave it a try. I love salmon, but only just started eating it last year, and have only ever had it fresh and cooked and hot.Well, this SeaBear salmon is delicious! I'd say the smoky/salty flavor is a bit strong, but in a good way. It does contain some sugar (2g) but doesn't taste very sweet, thankfully. The package is so thin/flat that it's nearly two-dimensional, so I was kinda expecting to open it and find a flattened pasty mess, but actually the appearance isn't bad, and there were many large whole chunks of meat.As with these Season-brand Skinless and Boneless Sardines that I first tried a few months ago, I was quite pleasantly surprised by how good fish-in-a-can (or bag) can be.

Convenient, good size
I wanted these for a special birthday omelet and they were fine. A bit pricey. I wanted dry-smoked salmon, not the very wet 'bagels and lox' type, and these were close. Being in Michigan, we can get very dry, smoky filets from the fisheries, just traveling this year for them. These were not quite as smoky and dry, but the omelet was good and I used the rest in for a cream cheese-based pasta sauce.

Delicious, high quality smoked trout
I was reluctant to buy smoked trout via the internet, but it was my only source. I was very pleased with the quality of this trout. It was boneless, attractive and delicious. It seemed somewhat expensive, and the portions appeared slightly smaller than the labeled 3.5 oz. However, I would order it again.

Poor flavor, texture, and appearance
I'm not a picky eater when it comes to foil pouches of fish. I primarily use them as part of my meals when backpacking. When I'm hungry and tired in the mountains, I'm not expecting gourmet, just something palatable and nourishing.I've tried pouches ranging from cheap mass produced pink salmon varieties purchased at a chain supermarkets to higher-end smoked salmon purchased from specialty vendors. This brand is by far the worst I've tried. I'll break it down for you.Texture: I'm not expecting whole tender fillets in a pouch. But this was mealy, stringy, and felt like it had been blended into a mush.Appearance: Pale and watery. Looked more like crushed tuna from a can than wild Pacific salmon.Flavor and aroma: It has a briny, overly salty flavor with a pungent fishy aroma. I tasted very little other than salt coupled with the overpowering smell.I hate wasting food and will normally finish a meal even if I don't like it. But this? I had to stop after a couple bites.

Not recommended
Not much smoked taste, and not much fish taste.
