Under-rated sci-fi film for the highlander generation
Being a big fan of the Highlander films (excluding 4-5, includingsearch for vengeance)and Christopher lambert I bought fortress yearsago on vhs expecting pretty much the same sort of fair as Highlanderand I was nicely surprised. What surprised me the most was how watchable fortress is, I must havewatched my old vhs dozens of times and to be honest im still not tiredof it now.The plot is very easy to get into, if a little clicé but that doesnt matteryou dont need to think with fortress because it is good old straight forwardaction fair that any sci-fi fan can enjoy especially on a rainy day.Production value wise Fortress is almost B-movie but not quite, meaning that sometimes the effects and sets can seem a little ropeybut then in contrast some scenes are very well done with some effectsstealing the show from the actors.Speaking of the actors, they do quite a passable job of drawing you intothe story, although lambert hardly has to do anything as his portrayalof the wounded, survivalist hero is pretty much the same role he has inevery film he's in.Onto the dvd release, its pretty much what you expect from a lesser knownaction film. The dvd really hasnt had any money spent on it, the menuis a old style still image with navigatable buttons and the sound qualityis just basic dvd fair. The one major downside is that the picture quality isnt too differentto my old vhs, with grains and dirt showning on the picture. But it doesnt really detract from the watchability of the film at allits just a bit dissapointing especially in this age af HD picture. All in all its an average release of a very enjoyable no brainer action movieTo quote/ alter some well know song lyrics by calvin harris "you willhave love for this film if you were born in the 80's....the 80's YeaH!"

Don't take it seriously!
This has to rank up there with other great/naff over-the-top 80's sci-fi movies like Total Recall. Fortress has to be one of the best movies to play "spot-the-red-jersey" game. ( The guy with the red jersey was always the first to be killed in Star Trek episodes, the expendable extra. ) All your basic cliches are here, the tough nut, the tough nut's sidekick, the brainy one, the young kid and the wise old man and you just know every one has a red jersey waiting for them at some point! Of course you can't have an 80's movie without Kurtwood Smith playing the bad guy, it just wouldn't be right. Lambert was never a stunning actor at the best of times and this is no exception, slightly wooden acting and the obligatory utter nonsense over the top sex-scene that the Actor's Guild must have insisted be in every 80's movie! If you're over 35 you'll have seen this film being advertised when you were a kid but you couldn't watch it. Well now you can for a budget price, get your mates round, couple of pizzas and a few beers and have damn good laugh!I have to admit though that the first 5 minutes of the film are a little too prophetic considering the hoops we now have to jump through to gain access the US, post 9/11! Creepy!

Good film dodgy bluray. POSSIBLE BOOTLEG.
Be aware the Spanish bluray is a BD-R disc and not a pressed disc. Possible bootleg? Picture and sound quality below average but watchable.

Thumbs up for Fortress
I don't know why, but I had a desire to watch 'Fortress 2' as I'd never seen it, but being a completist, I felt that I should Re-watch 'Fortess' beforehand, hence this purchase. It turns out its as I remembered. Pretty ridiculous but fun. It looks like they had a fairly decent budget. A really good, quirky cast. Well worth revisiting on a COVID afternoon.

''Do you know what 187 means fish?...... I bet its not your IQ''
Fortress is a futuristic, big brother gone mad type of movie. Standard stuff with a innocent (guilty in big bro go mad future) man sent down and battling his way through inmates, wardens and cyborg killing machines, (luckily he's the most decorated captain in the history of the black berets!!!) in order to be reunited with his wife. Typical acting from Lambert, and 90's bad guys Smith and Wells are welcome inclusions to the production. There are some interesting ideas in this film, one of which being a behavior control device called an intestinator, which causes pain if turned on by the Fortress warden, although I'm not sure, even in a crazy big bro future anyone would get away with intestinating pregnant women!! Impenetrable Fortress, exploding 'gut' bombs, cyborgs and big arse guns...... Whats not to like? I managed to pick it up for pennies. Sci-fi/Fantasy collections need this!!

Chri-mbo vs Clarence Boddicker
Chri-mbo is sent to a high tech prison just for having consensual sex with his wife. (its the near future, don't ask)The prison warden Kurtwood smith after screwing up alex murphy's day enough decides, he'll screw up highlander's day as wellSo Chrimbo leanrs the ins and outs of the futuristic prison. avoids prison rape, kills some dude, gets brainwashed, grows his hair long grabs a gun and starts kicking the crap out of everyone and escapes like the smooth pimp he is.......oh yeah and his wife is in prison as well and he rescues her I guess and they all live happily ever after.I consider this an unsung low budget gem its not perfect but it's pretty good
