Looks great … at 6 feet.
If you’re at a six foot distance, you might mistake this Jinhao 80 for a Lamy 2000, as long as it’s capped. The Lamy’s section is brushed metal, not black plastic; the Lamy has a hooded nib, the Jinhao doesn’t. Closer and you’ll notice the unfortunate and obvious sloppy manufacturing — mold seams on either side of the cap (the worst) and the barrel. Ugh. Mine had a scratch across the cap already. When I flushed the pen for the first time, blue ink came out. Interestingly, just like the Lamy fountain pens, from Lamy testing every nib. Somehow, I don’t see Jinhao doing that. The resin material is well done, quite similar to that German pen. It is a very comfortable pen to write with and here, for me, it actually beats the German. The L2k has two tiny metal nubs that stick out from the barrel, right where I place my thumb, and it drives me crazy. The nubs help make that legendary silk smooth capping experience, however. On to the nib. It’s a fine, it’s rather scratchy, and there is feedback about like writing with an HB pencil. It wrote quite dry, I used a bit of micro mesh and three passes with a brass shim. This improved the ink flow and improved the scratchy, somewhat. I have Lamy nibs so I thought I’d put one on this Jinhao 80 but couldn’t remove the Jinhao nib using any of the usual techniques. It appears to be jammed in place. If I remember to not press the nib too much, it writes acceptably. There is absolutely no comparison with the Lamy 14k gold fine nib, which is what I own. But duh.The Jinhao 80 is not a copy of the Lamy 2000, not by a long shot. The Lamy has a beautifully brushed metal section, as previously mentioned; the Lamy is a pistol filler while the Jinhao uses cartridges or a converter; the nibs have nothing in common other than being affixed to the feed.It would have been a nice touch to include a hood over the nib, like the German has. But no. I got the black with black clip.I realize at this price point, only so much can be reasonably expected. The Jinhao 80 was a pretty good start but doesn’t fare well at the end of the day. The obvious seams down the whole pen is cringeworthy. I don’t really recommend this pen overall.

Ink dries out in 2-3 days
I like the form factor of the pen, and find it more comfortable than Lamy 2000 in the grip area. However, both of my two Jinhao 80 dries out quickly when not using the pen for 3+ days. Then the pen won't start no matter what, and I have to either re-fill ink or clean it out with water. For comparison, Lamy 2000 works fine after 2 weeks of not using. My other fountain pens (Pilot, Twsbi, etc.) also start fine after a one week break, so only Jinhao 80 has this problem. The pen is still excellent for its price. I hope Jinhao can improve the cap to prevent the pen from drying out.

What a great pen!
What a surprise pen is great. Smooth and great writing. 10 bucks what a deal! I know it’s cheap but for EDC phenomenal.

A worthy pen
I bought this pen for the specific purpose of using it as a dedicated pen inked with Noodler's Baystate Blue ink which is notoriously difficult to clean. This way, I get the use of the ink without worrying about cleaning difficulty, and it's less expensive to replace than a Lamy 2000. The added benefit is that it is a nice writing instrument.

It’s not bad- a bit scratchy
Side by side with Lamy 2000, they look similar except for the silver band. The caps are not interchangeable and the copy is a bit lighter than the original. Glad I tried it, and now it’s part of the daily rotation. Don’t expect miracles, but for the price paid- fine pen.

Copy of a Lamy 2000?
Not a copy of a Lamy 2000, but a good pen for the money. Before you commit to the 2000 if you're not sure of the shape, get this one first. The shape is close enough. Otherwise, Fine is not my preferred, I did tune the pen slightly, which you can do at this price point.

Smooth writers
I'm not experiencing any leaks, skips, or issues. I picked up two of these pens and have promoted them to everyday carry. They are great for heading and notations but a little too broad for my bullet journaling.

Nice pen, easy to grip
I am always looking for new fountain pens and this one caught my eye. I love the texture on the barrel, easy to grip and feels good in the hand. Writes very smooth. I always like to try to flex the nib a bit to see what it can do, and this didn’t disappoint me. Nice thick’s and thins, no railroading. The nib reminded me of a falcon nib, that’s what caught my eye. I don’t own a true falcon nib, so I can’t speak to the similarities, but I am pleased with this pen and how it writes. I highly recommend.

A good buy
Known in fountain pen circles as being similar to a much higher priced German made pen, this works well is a considerably lower price.
