Q: Does the smoke from the cone meant to only travel down the way?

The smoke will travel down and pool in dead air. Slight breeze will disperse it.

Check if the hole is not blocked of something that could be only the reason and the cones should have a hole as well,mine working perfect,let me know if you can sort it out I will send you pics of mine
