A win-win! I lost weight, feel great, and the food is fabulous!
A win-win! I lost weight, feel great, and the food is fabulous. I am a huge fan of Ms Davila's guacamole. It is a staple in our house. I also love the Piña Colada smoothies. Feels like Cancun every time I have it yet it is healthy and full of protein. She also introduced me to the concept of healthifying my breakfast. I would usually have poached or fried eggs on toast. Since reading this book I have replaced the toast with a rotating variety of healthy vegetables. Today we will have sautéed onions and spinach; two fried eggs on top; avocado on the side and delicious salsa. MUCH better tasting than my old alternative of eggs on toast. And the change in this habit has allowed my to loose nearly 20 lbs in the last year.

Lose weight and stay healthy with Mexican food
A wonderful diet book, with a good take on the problems many in the West have today, namely, too much gluten, as well as oils and other fats. The book is targeted towards an Hispanic-American audience, who as a group wrestle with obesity, based mainly on their traditional diet. Mexican food, at least in the United States, is thought of as a heavy meal, but Maru Davila presents 21+ meals (breakfast/lunch/dinner, plus snacks and dessert) which are low carbohydrate, gluten-free, sugar free, and cholestrol friendly. The meals avoid processed carbohydrates and fats.It is a 7-day diet, and to me it is a "kick-start" diet, one that will stop the craziness and get a person onto a longer plan to lose weight and maintain a new level. In that sense it is similar to the Cabbage Soup diet, previously known as the Dolly Parton diet, seven days with a similar weight loss predicted. After 7 days she believes the reader will lose 7 pounds. There is a section about Maru Davila's own journey, a fascinating life with a lot of accomplishment. This was accompanied by digestive issues as well as fatigue which she eventually traced to gluten and sugar based foods. Overcoming these problems and regaining her energy led to the writing of this book as well as a nutrition consulting business and several related products. After reading the book I decided to try one of the recipes, it was delicious and satisfying. The recipe was Ranchero Eggs with Quinoa. I modified the recipe a bit, substituting the red salsa with a green tomatillo salsa I made the night before. The rest was similar, a bed of quinoa, two fried eggs, and I added the tomatillo salsa flavored with cumin to the eggs shortly before they were done, to warm up the salsa before serving. I added some fruit as a garnish as well as, hey, I like fresh fruit in the morning. The Mexican Food Diet offers a kickstart program to losing 7 pounds in 7 days, with delicious Mexican food recipes and a helpful context for why the diet is good for your body and soul.

How to clean up your health act without feeling deprived!
I learned so much from this book!! As someone that lives close to the border, I'm very familiar with Mexican cuisine. But unfortunately, that included cooking with lots of fat, starch and other unhealthy ingredients. This book reworks those recipes in a way that they are actually MORE delicious, but without the bad stuff ! The author does a good job of telling her own story of how she THOUGHT she was living a healthy lifestyle, but was missing the boat. This is a good primer of what do right if you want to clean up your act while not feeling like you are depriving yourself of yummy food.

You are what you eat
Cool facts about the way different foods work for your body. However, if you know this then skip to the recipes. Author advertises her products within the book. In addition provides a list of smart and stupid foods.I expected more of why Mexican food was healthy. As I grow up eating popcorn soup, tortillas, beans, birria, and other mexican meals. My expectation where not answered as I was provided with a different answer about food should be eaten for the nutrient.

Great cookbook
Nice yummy recipes for those of us who love Mexican food. It is a great addition to any cooking library and I have never been on a "diet", I just love to eat good heathy food. Maru, the author, is a delight if you get the good fortune to see her on TV.

Four Stars
Some of the information is good, but i thought it was a cookbook. I was rather disappointed.

Don't buy
Too many ingredients, most recipes take way too long to make, very expensive to cook the food, organic and fresh feed beef, lots and lots of ingredients I have never heard of. I am returning to book.

Easy Food that Tastes Great!
I've seen this lady, Maru Davila, on television more than once and the food from these receipts looks really great, and easy and fun to make. So, I expect to eat happy saying, "Adios extra pounds. Thanks but, no thank you fat gut." I admit I am an avocado lover, then mix in that other stuff and WOW. TW
