Super Easy Upgrade
I originally bought a QNAP TS-253A about six years ago as a Plex server. It worked great for the whole time. But when we recently upgraded to a 4k tv, it's video conversion and upscaling started to stutter. So I bought this QNAP TS-264-8G-US 2 Bay to replace it.All I had to do when it came was to swap in the two drives from my old setup! I waited a little while, ran a few required updates and everything was online and running faster than ever!In the past I have had to reach out to their tech support, of which has been stellar. They can even connect to your server (with your authorization) and fix whatever is wrong. Even though QNAPs are a bit on the pricey side, their quality and support are absolutely worth the cost.

Just what the doctor ordered...
This is a great little unit. I am happier than usual because this unit I received is upgradable to 16Gb. Most reviews I see here are for units that are not upgradable. However, the most memory the processor can handle is 16Gb. So trying for more than that is not practical, IMO. I recommend using the Seagate Ironwolf Pro HDDs for the storage. I did a lot of research on this and those are the more reliable drives I could find. Get new ones, of course, as the more hours on the drive (used HDDs can have several thousand virtual hours on them) the less reliable the NAS becomes. All items for this unit were purchased on Amazon. I upgraded the memory to Crucial CT2K8G4SFRA32A memory (a full 16Gb DDR set) and added 2 M.2 SSDs, Crucial CT2000P3PSSD8 (2Tb). My reasoning for Crucial units for the upgrade is that they should play nice together. Nothing special about them other than of all the name brand items, they were the least expensive at the time of purchase. Have a great journey with your NAS!

RAM expansion, 2 models
I've been using the QNAP TS-264-8G-US 2 Bay for about 3 months now and it's been working great. For the people who are complaining about not being able to upgrade the RAM like the description says you can, there seem to be 2 models of the QNAP TS-264-8G-US 2 Bay. I'm not sure which is the new one and which is the older one but 1 has RAM slots you can expand and the other has the RAM soldiered in. I got the expandable one and although it says 8 GB I was able to expand the RAM to 32 GB. Which model you get seems to be based on what they have left in the warehouse.

great for media server
Unpacking and setup was easy for me. But I also do this for a living, so it should be. People who are used to a windows product may have difficulty navigating anything non-windows. Not Qnaps fault. Its fast, stores my media, has easy to use backup features, and is overall a great little product. The only issue is some of the software on it has stopped working a few months in. Tech support has not been to much help as they are blaming other things. Not a game changer as for me what needs to work still works.

Excellent NAS for home and small office use
Review is for: QNAP TS-464-8G-US 4 BayDrive installation is very simple and easy. Tool-less.Connect to network and power on. Use the QNAP utility to locate it and configure it. Very straightforward for anyone who has a little bit of computer background. Various RAID options - I am using it as RAID 1 at this time. It does take a very long time to initialize and sync the drives, but overall tolerable.Access to files and folders are simple to setup for small office and even supports AD integration as well.

First one was a dud, but this one works well.
Please note, this is a long review, but I think it may hold some interesting helpful information for others to review. First off, I had to return the first unit that was shipped to me because it was DOA. Also returned an expansion card as it unfortunately does not fit this unit (didn't get that PCIe and NVme slots were different given the fact that the PCIe card had two Nvme slots and a fan. The replacement unit is so far is working fine (I will surely register for the 5-year warranty). Now the review of the unit itself. I understand why some reviewers called this a niche product (somewhere between home and business). For me it seems to be doing its job really nicely so far. Only 3 drive bays, but frankly that's all I need. I had an ancient Seagate Blackarmor 4 bay unit with 4 lightly used Seagate Barracuda 7200 1TB drives at 3Gbps (in its day [2012] these were considered NAS quality drives). Unfortunately, after hours of fiddling and research, I finally determined that I could only use this old unit if I went back to SMB1 security levels (something that is not recommended) but can be done in Windows 10-- if you know where to look to turn it off. How do I know it worked? I tried it and sure enough the Blackarmor was not only recognized but worked quite easily-- but not safe if I ever decided to connect to the internet. Hence, I researched and ultimately decided on the TS-364 by QNAP.I researched carefully if I could use my old 1TB drives and the info for the TS-364 clearly stated both 6Gbps and 3Gbps supported drives-- so I took a chance and it worked. To those drives I added 2x 2TB Nvme drives in both the available slots and bought a usb 3.2 hard drive enclosure for the remaining Barracuda drive to connect to one of the NAS's USB 3.2 ports. So far other than a dead Ethernet cable that was shipped with the replacement unit, everything is now working really well, and I am quite happy with the overall setup and performance. The USB 3.2 ports, ethernet 2.5Gbps and HDMI 1.4b ports are not the perfect combination. I would have loved another ethernet port and HDMI 2.x port, but frankly-- as noted above, I am a home user and at least for now, don't even foresee connecting the unit through HDMI. So overall I would give it a solid 8.5/10 and am currently quite happy with the purchase. I really don't think there is anything else out there that matches all the specs for the home/light business user (especially since I could reuse my drives.). There seems to be a lot of software aps for the QNAP device and the GUI (yes, I am showing my age) is really nice. Just make sure you register for the 5-year warranty. I may write QNAP and find out if they will replace the DOA ethernet cable that came with the second unit-- but probably too much of a pain as you can get Cat 5,6,7,8 cables for pretty cheap. You made it! That's the whole review. I hope it helps someone in their decision-making process. MD

A Remarkable Blend of ease of use and Reliability - The QNAP TS-264 Excels!
I recently purchased the QNAP TS-264-8G-US 2 Bay High-Performance Desktop NAS, and I must say, it has exceeded all my expectations. As someone who relies heavily on digital storage for both school and personal use, finding the right NAS was crucial. The TS-264 has been a game-changer.Build Quality and Setup: The NAS is solidly built, with a design that's both sleek and functional. Setting it up was a breeze, thanks to the intuitive QNAP software. The step-by-step instructions made the process smooth and hassle-free, even for someone not very tech-savvy.Storage and Expandability: The two-bay setup offers plenty of storage for my current needs, but I love the fact that I can expand the storage if needed. The flexibility to add more drives in the future is a huge plus.Support: On the one occasion I needed assistance, QNAP’s customer support was outstanding. They were knowledgeable, patient, and helped me resolve my query quickly. Conclusion: The QNAP TS-264-8G-US is an exceptional NAS that combines high performance, ease of use, and reliability. It's perfect for anyone looking for a dependable storage solution, be it for professional or personal use. Highly recommended!

Great price
Had a TS-451 die on me, and this one is a direct swap for the drives. Went incredibly easy.

Really great performance so far
Admittedly was a bit gunshy at first with a 3-bay NAS, but it's been a few weeks and I don't regret one bit. I am moving over from a very reliable Qnap TS-419P+ that has served me for over a decade. Key highlights:- Great size - quite compact, although it is somewhat deep.- At first was running a little bit hotter than I expected. It is on the same shelf as my previous unit, but based on the depth the back was only a couple inches away from the wall. I did a bit of re-jigging and pulled it out a bit more to give the fan more airflow, and it's definitely running cooler.- Configured with 3x 12TB IronWolfs in RAID 5 config. I was a bit nervous about a more write penalty due to only 3 disks, but that has not been seen. I can max out and copy a full 2.5Gbps over the network and the disks more than keep up.- Running Emby Server for media services on it and it handles 4K transcoding like a breeze. The CPU is only pegging 3-4% when I do.All in all I am really pleased with this purchase and so far am not regretting going to 3 bay. Maybe down the road it could inhibit expansion, but I feel that's a long way off. Strongly recommended!
