9 Pin to 16 Pin OBD2 Adapter Cable for Heavy Duty Trucks

I bought this because I work on enough older heavy equipment and trucks that guessing gets expensive. Regular cars are 16-pin OBD2. The big trucks just look at you with that round 9-pin J1939 connector like “nice try, buddy.” This little green cable fixes that. I’ve been running it with an OBDLink MX+ and a cheap Android phone in Termux. Claude Code writes and tweaks the diagnostic tools right there so I can decode the data, log parameters, and actually watch what the truck is doing instead of just firing the parts cannon at it. One of the trucks is an International 4300 with the DT466. 217,000 miles and it’s developed enough personality that a check engine light is basically a love letter at this point. Used this setup chasing intermittent starting problems, digging through J1939 data, watching live engine parameters, electrical issues, ABS nonsense. Sitting in the cab with the phone and watching the truck tell me what’s actually happening in real time is a hell of a lot more useful than swapping a sensor because some guy on a forum had a vaguely similar problem in 2014. What I like about this thing is it doesn’t pretend to be anything. No blinking lights, no app that wants a subscription, no account to create, no firmware update, no inspirational startup screen telling me I’m about to “revolutionize my diagnostic journey.” It’s a cable. One end in the truck, other end in the MX+. Pins are wired right, connection stays solid while I’m crawling around a 20-year-old truck wondering which engineer decided that particular wire needed to vanish behind six feet of harness. That’s all I wanted. The funny part is what this cheap adapter makes possible. Twenty years ago getting this kind of info out of a heavy truck meant specialized gear that cost real money. Now it’s a Bluetooth MX+, a random Android phone, Termux, Claude Code writing software next to me, and this green cable bridging the whole ridiculous setup to J1939. Strange time to be a shade-tree mechanic. The cable itself isn’t doing any magic. It’s just the small, inexpensive piece that lets everything else talk. And in a toolbox full of expensive tools, broken bolts, previous-owner “repairs,” and parts I bought because I was sure that was the problem this time… there’s something deeply satisfying about a simple $20-ish cable that just does exactly what it’s supposed to do. Mine works. I’d buy it again.

My adapter for my scanner had a pin push in on the connector so I had to replace it. This works and it was a decent price.

Worked well to hook up to my scanner. Unfortunately my scanner was incompatible with my RV’s ECM (not OBD 2). The adapter did allow my scanner to access the ECM, it just could t read it.

Tried on multiple vehicles and could not get it to work at all.

It probably works as intended. I ordered it to connect an ELD device on trucks, but don't have a truck to test it right now. But there's an issue with this adapter. 1) It's missing the anchor point (or teeth) to prevent connected ELD device from wiggling and falling off, 2) It's not as wide as other adapters we have. It's not as much as seen on the 3rd picture, but you'll get an idea what I'm referring to. Requires very little force to disconnect the ELD device. Overall, I think it not good for ELD connection. It won't be stable

Amazing! It works with the Blue Driver I bought for my Jeep and now I can get the codes (if any) on my RV.

Doesn't work ,won't connect to the truck I tried with 3 different obd2 scanner
