Quick and easy conversion of old, inefficient and ugly downlighters!
I had a few old 'gold' (tarnished) downlighters with conventional incandescent bulbs (read high wattage cost), which of course were much larger fittings than a modern Halogen - or better still LED downlighter. To update them, I thought we were in for a big job of having the ceiling patched and replastered, until I saw these. Instead, using this kit I had the old lights replaced within a couple of hours with efficient LED bulbs and the ceiling looks smart and modern with no painting needed. My only criticism is not with the unit, but the (lack of) instructions, as it is not entirely clear which parts are needed depending on what type of existing circuit you have - regular 240v AC or a low voltage transformer (the kit works with both - if you are using the simpler standard AC voltage, then you simply discard the sticking out black plastic on a metal arm part). If like myself you are simply replacing old incandescent lights you're almost certainly using standard 240v so the job is super easy - take out the old light unit (from below typically) swap the wires (making sure your lighting circuit is OFF at the main circuit box!) and push these new units back up into the same hole. The large blanking plate will cover even this larger hole perfectly. All in all recommended. If I do another I will try and video / photograph to show how easy it is - though a quick YouTube search will find you other examples - which help to show how to fit the two spring arms correctly as it take a moment to suss out due to the lack of diagram.

OK but too hard to fit the bulbs
The product is ok, but is made of fairly thin metal. They are easy enough to fit, but the springs that hold them in the ceiling seem to push the sides in fractionally when you fit them. That makes it next to impossible to fit the bulbs and put the retaining clip in place. The retaining clip is quite strong and the ends are sharp, which makes compressing them quite painful, and then comes the problem of seating them to hold the bulb in place. Nightmare. Get the ones from Screwfix instead. They are cheaper, better quality and a dream to fit.

White Downlighter Conversion Kit
I purchased four of these kits to replace four old style mains down lighters that were in my kitchen. I think perhaps it took longer to get the units out of the shrink wrapped plastic packaging than it took to actually fit them. They are simple to put together and very easy to install. When I ordered these units I also ordered 5 GU10 5 Watt Super bright LED lamps. (Got 5 so I have a spare if needed). Now that the job is complete, my kitchen is much brighter and I am only using a total of 20 Watts instead of 200 Watts. I would recommend these conversion kits.

Does the job
I tried one of these as a replacement for our downlight fittings and it certainly does the job and is easy to fit, providing you know how it works. However, in our application it brought the lamp almost flush with the ceiling which meant the GU10 LEDs shone bright light in our eyes. If the lamp seat had been recessed 20mm or so I would have given 5 stars especially as these are half the price of others I have seen.

White downlighter Conversion
ConsA bit fiddly to installThe instructions are not greatProsDoes the job wellLooks pretty good, better than my old fittingNot expensiveThe instructions are not that good, but persevere and it does make some sense. I see that some people here left out the vertcal shaft - a bit risky with halogen bulbs? They get very hot and so the cable must be kept away from the top of the lamp and that is what the vertical bit does.

Best I've come across
These really are very good. They are easy to fit ( after the first one anyway ), come in a range of colours, and accommodate a wide range of hole sizes. The method of clamping the fitting to the hole in the plasterboard is the best I've come across and gives a really tight, secure fit. Highly recommended.

down lighter converters
When we moved house, the new property had 12, 6 inch 'eyeball' lights in the kitchen and bathroom, which were hideous. The converter kit enables a very quick adaption to be made, with minimum of decorative work, and makes a very neat and presentable job of it. I also converted to LED GU10 bulbs so the running costs have fallen from 60 watts per bulb to 2watts !!

Very pleased
I bought a pair of these to replace R63 units with LED GU10 and was so impressed I have just ordered another pair. The item is well made and looks good, my only criticism are the instructions which are somewhat confusing but having assembled a unit all becomes clear as what is trying to be communicated. Maybe a diagram would be useful.
