Highly recommended to readers of all ages
What luck! Happy Times in Noisy Village arrived just in time to get me through another illness. Nothing will distract you from feeling sick like one of Astrid Lindstrom’s Noisy Village books. Happy Times in Noisy Village is the sequel to fabulous Children of the Noisy Village , which I was luckily able to read on Audible. While the sequel isn’t on Audible, the paperback version gave me the chance to enjoy Ilon Wikland’s lovely illustrations. The six children of Noisy Village — 9-year-old Lisa; her mischievous older brothers, Karl and Bill; and neighbors Anna, Britta, and Olaf — don’t live in an actual village at all, but in a grouping of three farmhouses, as was the way in Sweden long ago. The three farmhouses got the affectionate nickname because of all of the ruckus an active pack of children can create. The tales, set at the turn of the 20th century, are deceptively simple — helping out an ailing teacher, baby-sitting, selling cherries to passersby, outwitting the smug boys, pulling a baby tooth, and a Midsummer festival — and Lindgren, best known for Pippi Longstocking and its sequels, always turns them into gems, never cloying, as they easily could have been.It might be tempting to read this book immediately; however, trust me: You’ll be glad if you save it for your direst hour of need — and need of distraction. Highly recommended to readers of all ages.

My 8yr old loves it.
I read the stories of the children in Noisy Village and wanted my kids to have it too. And as expected they both love it but my younger one loves it so much that it is next to her bed and became one of her favorite goodnight stories.

Best for older children.
This is a "chapter book", not a "picture book" like the other Noisy Village book that we have. It's a trade paperback with poor quality paper and I suspect the binding won't last too long. That said, the Noisy Village stories are very sweet and the depiction of daily life in Sweden a generation or two ago is quite nice.I purchased this to read to my four year old, and I'll be setting this one aside for a few years. There are several instances where the children call each other "stupid" or use disrespectful language, which probably isn't is a bit much for a very impressionable young child. There's also a story in this book where one of the children states a belief that being an only child is a terrible fate, so if you happen to have just one child, you might want to be aware of that. Overall, though, a very sweet book with a focus on seasonal activities and families.

Perfect condition. THE BEST READ ALOUD.
The book came in perfect condition and promptly. As for the content- the Noisy Village Books are our absolute favorite. Mom and kids both enjoy it. The stories are told with detail and simplicity so that my 4 year old can retell exactly what happens.

5 year old loves these stories
Our 5 year old boy loves us to read these stories to him! We've read this book and the other Noisy Village book several times. There are some "stupid" and other similar words in them, but we find them to be good-natured, fun stories that make us all laugh.

Lovable and memorable!
One of our favorite read alouds. The chapters are just the right length - not too short and not too long - for a young child's storytime. My kids have taken many scenes from this book and acted them out in their playing. The characters are both lovable and memorable, and the writing is superb!!

Such fun and laughing out loud!
My kids enjoy these old Astrid Lindgren stories, and this one delivers the silliness, frankness, and humor of young children. They are fun and realistic, without being tacky, of course. It's also great to help today's children imagine life in a rural setting, historical setting, and relate to others around the world.

Little disappointed
I'm from Czech and I must have read this book about 20 times, last time about 2 years ago and I'm almost 35! That's how amazing and sweet the story is!When I saw this on Amazon I thought, fantastic! I will buy that for friend's kids, they will love it just like I did. When the book arrived, I started reading through it and I was a bit disappointed. Some of the names of the children were changed as opposed to the original Swedish ones we had in the Czech book, I guess to make it easier to read but I don't think Lasse, Bosse and Olle is difficult for British children, or is it? Also I didn't know this isn't the actual complete book, it is only second or maybe third part so I will have to buy the rest of the books to get the complete story.

Beautiful childhood tales
My son isn’t into fantastic books, he is a town kid through and through. He is mesmerized by these simple stories of children who live in a village and work on a farm, walk to school alone. I love these because they reflect memories of childhood and remind us how long a summer is when you are a kid

Gorgeous book
Lovely book. My 6 year old daughter absolutely loves the Noisy Village books - she was hooked assoon as she started the first one, The Children of Noisy Village. Charming stories but not sickly sweet - the children have their fair share of falling outs and squabbles but are really the best of friends! The books made us want to go back in time to 1930s/40s Sweden and move into the countryside!

I read Bullerby as a child, my children now love these stories
I loved these stories as a child and I love reading them to my children now (ages 6 and 4). They are simple but humorous and insightful tales of ordinary life (school, Easter, Christmas, holidays etc.)
