Cord weight for blinds/curtains

A great replacement at a reasonable cist

I found that for cords that run horizontally these weights were completely useless, seemingly incapable of performing the simple task for which they were designed. However, when applied to vertical cords these weights were fantastic and the difference was quite amazing - like chalk and cheese! These weights are very finely balanced, somehow managing, beyond all expectation, to hit that sweet spot between being too heavy and being too light! They are indeed a miracle of modern engineering; my cords have never hung so vertically straight and yet performed so smoothly. I can highly recommend these weights to anyone with vertical cords, although I do think that Amazon and the manufacturer should make it clear they are unsuitable for horizontal cords.

I was really struggling to separate the two parts: the two "buttons" simply could not be depressed. I then realised that part of the inner weight had risen and become stuck, preventing the buttons on the top part from moving inwards. I managed to dislodge the offending item by poking a small screwdriver through the cord holes. Once it had been pushed to the base of the weight, the top part came away.
