"DAY IS GETTING DARK LIKE THE AREA IS TURNING URBAN"
I was first introduced to Tyler, the Creator on The Game's "Martian vs Goblins" track where he made a very funny reference to Lebron's hairline. Since then I kept my ear to the street looking for anything new with his name attached to it. When I finally listened to "Goblin" I was a little disappointed. He still had plenty of one liners and his rap skills were impressive at times but it was missing something. Maybe it was continuity or just an overall flow to the album. Hoping for more, I decided to give him one last try before I dropped him off my radar like I did Saigon and Papoose. "Wolf" is Tyler, the Creator magnum opus. One thing you can say about Tyler, the Creator is that he holds nothing back. He says whatever is on his mind even if he is going hard on his fellow Odd Future teammates. Specifically, Frank Ocean, who has 3 songs on "Wolf" falls victim atleast 2 times to Tyler's unpredictable ad libs. I haven't heard someone use so many homophobic terms since Eminem was on drugs. The album starts off with the dreamy, interlude "Wolf", which begins with a smooth piano until Tyler comes in with furious f-bombs. It is a perfect set up for things to come. Tyler does not rely purely on `shock rap'; he pours out every inch of his personality over and over again throughout the album. If you need proof of Tyler's lyrical ability look no further than songs like "Colossus" and "Answer". On the melodic "Colossus", Tyler tells the story of an awkward moment he had with a homosexual fan at Six Flags. This is his "Stan" moment without the tragic ending. "Answer" features Tyler at his best, pouring out his thoughts about his absentee father, his Odd Future family, and a lost love. Both songs are standout gems along with the Pharrell-assisted love song "IFHY". On first listen I completely messed the message on "Pigs". But after reading the lyrics I realize he is telling a story that is very much connected to current events. Powerful song. The second half of the CD plays like an Odd Future collabo album with the best being "Rusty" featuring the highly underrated Earl Sweatshirt. "Trashwang" is solid but the supporting cast could have went harder. What makes this album special is Tyler's ability to carry a so-so track. "Slater" & "48" are not good songs but Tyler makes them listenable. but the album closes on a very high note with the very personal "Lone". Which sounds exactly like a 9th Wonder production. The one thing that threw me off when I first listened to this album was how it seemed like Tyler's flow did not sync with the beats. At times he was going faster than the beat and it made the songs flow weird. After listening a few times this flaw is less noticeable. I give much credit to the production. I was impressed when I found out that Tyler did most of his own production. I like the tone, melody, and how he uses instruments especially the piano. I don't think these were live instruments but it works for me. The track arrangement is very good. Each song blends perfectly into each other. It reminds me of the track arrangement Frank Ocean used for "Channel Orange".Everyone who has read my reviews should know that originality means a lot to me. There aren't too many rappers as original as Tyler, the Creator. I contemplated for a long time before I decided to rate this album. This album did not hit me right away like "Channel ORANGE" did but after a few spins and reading the lyrics, I realize this album is number one on my list. I am very happy I gave Tyler, the Creator a second chance because I would have missed out on the best album of 2013 so far. He has a chance at a long future. He has not made it as big as Kendrick Lamar, but the ceiling is high for him. Looks like I picked the right time to become a Tyler, the Creator fan. A+

Listened to the album on my CD player, it’s pretty good. The quality of it was great, and I definitely enjoyed listening to it. Came with a little book with the tracklist and lyrics to the songs in order.
