Evelyn Underhill's Prayer Book

A beautiful book of prayers and meditations of timeless value.

I think this book is a real treasure to have, akin in value to Lancelot Andrewes Private Prayers. It could so easily have been lost, as one of the notebooks it was edited from was only discovered when someone found it in a charity shop. Those who already appreciate Evelyn Underhill's helpful and insightful writings will no doubt be very pleased to see this published and it is very good that the editor and publishers have done this.Why only 3 stars though, because while I would otherwise give a full 5 star rating for the book ? Very sadly the Kindle ebook edition is almost useless as it has been formatted like a novel. (Something that some other books of this kind sadly suffer from and showing lack of care and consideration for users). There are no hard links in the text and the contents links only do so for the different items of front matter, the actual text and the end matter. One can get to the index at the back, but the various topics shown there do not link to the relevant Kindle pages, they only show the original printed book page numbers, which is most disappointing indeed. Perhaps one might be able to work back to the actual topic prayers to get to them, although I guess that may not always get the reader straight to where they want to be, and this is not an efficient way to do things.I realise that it will require a fair bit of work to include the full links to each prayer and section of the book, including from the index, but the publishers or producers of this Kindle ebook would be doing a great service to readers in getting this sorted out and improved. I so very much hope that they will do this and that purchased copies will be automatically updated via Amazon. I for one, am then sure that I would give this book a five star rating. I shouldn't really have had to, but I have ordered a printed copy of this book so that I can use it sensibly and perhaps more easily make bookmarks to particular prayers that I like in my Kindle ebook edition from it in the meantime.I feel sure that all who benefit from Evelyn Underhill's writings will count this an important addition to their collections, at least in the paperback edition, if not in a properly indexed and updated Kindle ebook edition to hopefully come in due course.
