Best kickstart for Node development
I worked this book start to finish and it was absolutely critical in getting me up to speed on server side JavaScript development in a hurry. This was a great purchase and had really kicked off a desire to "level up" as a developer. Examples were great and informative. I wish the sections where you're given tasks to extend the code had a little bit more explanation written into them but that's just me not picking. One of the few programing books I've done cover to cover and found truly valuable

Easy to follow examples that really work
Easy to follow examples that really work! Great book on not only learning JavaScript, but using JavaScript for all things backend. Great book that explains the technologies needed for web service applications. Densely packed with information that will continue to help me learn for years to come.

So far the couple of chapters I read is easy to understand and follow
I bought this book from a recommendation of a coworker. So far the couple of chapters I read is easy to understand and follow. Coming from a C# programming background this book makes the transition to Node.js a little easier.

Five Stars
I love this book. Jim Wilson has managed to present Node in its full context as a versatile run-time environment. This book even makes Node programming fun. It's also really well written with excellent code samples to illustrate the patterns and applications discussed in the text.

I'd really recommend a different book for learning node
Something about the way this book was written did not click with me at all. I think maybe the writer is a little too used to async design because the structure of this book is all over the place. I'll say it made for an ok pocket-reference for me but I already had a working knowledge of node. For anyone trying to learn node from this book I would not recommend it.

It is a great read to get used to some of the aspects of Node that other intro books do not typically delve into. It's fairly easy to read and mostly clear of errors.

Good book covering lots of useful techniques
Good book covering lots of useful techniques. Coding projects in each chapter are self explanatory and likely useful for a server-side JavaScript developer.

Good maybe for millenials...
Perhaps it's me, and not the book. I'm an old dog and prefer books that explain fully what the matter is. The current general trend with many authors is to assume you're reading sitting at your computer, so they do things like this: "Fire up your browser and type this". I don't learn best like that. I need to understand first what I'm typing and how it works. So having nearly finished this book (and I bought it based on the excellent comments it gained from many readers), I am frankly disappointed. It probably fits the millenial "asynchronous" way of thinking, but I prefer overall a slower pace and deeper depth to the material covered. That gives me the tools I need to then go to my computer and create what I really want, with a full understanding of what I'm doing. On the contrary, I often find that doing things the way this book does, I can create the examples the book uses, but then am a loss when I have to create an original program. Like I said, I'm an old dog from the days of synchronous DOS - steeped in visual studio, php and quite experienced in js (but not the newer paradigms like promises and async/await programming), so I take full blame for my dislike of this book.

Poor print quality. Graphics&Screenshots hardly legible.
The screenshots and graphics are printed in such low quality that one can see through the print from the other side. The print version is such a poor quality print I am going to return this book. Which seems useful though and I wanted to have a hard copy because I thought it would be better to read.
