A classic example of a solution in search of a problem.
This is a curious approach to tattooing for beginners. In this approach the manufacturer has taken what is ostensibly a standard wireless tattoo pen, and decreased the motor speed at any particular voltage. Essentially, they have reduced power output, and have done it across the entire working range. That range happens to be 5.0-12.0 volts. I can say right now that at about 8.0v, this pen is beginning to scream. That can't have anything to do with reduced RPM. It's just not a good quality motor. The mysterious approach to beginning tattooing implies that there were some calls from beginners decrying the motor speed in standard, inexpensive tattoo kit. I've tried dozens, and have never found that an issue. In fact, nobody has ever complained to me about motor speed.I'm going out on a limb here, and I'll say that in general, if you reduce the output RPMs, someone seeking to work at the actual RPM (for say 6.5v) will simply go up the voltage range.I digress. The pen is very nicely made, and it fits well in the hand. I love that it's fat, and has parallel sides. This makes it a simple matter to make it even fatter, reducing hand fatigue. Of course, there is an entire school of though among manufacturers that says beginners should have a narrower, thinner pen, closer to a pen you write with. The idea being you would make the transition to a larger, fatter pen gradual.I don't think many tattooists subscribe to that, however. Most would likely tell you to start fat, get accustomed to fat, and work with a fat pen. Save your hands. The controls and LED readout are on the top of the pen, on a 45 degree angle. I like this a lot. The controls consist of three buttons ("on-off", "-" and "+"). Easy enough to operate. The pen makes a lot of noise. I've used much cheaper pens that were far quieter, and smoother, as well. This particular pen begins screaming in the 8.0+ volt range. At 12.0v you need ear plugs. The digital LED readout is very easy to read, and very bright. As far as the stroke length: The listing, and also the literature, don't indicate anything about the stroke range. It happens that it is adjustable, but you'd never know it from what is offered in specs. You only get to know "3.5mm", which I'm assuming is the maximum stroke length. No way to know what the minimum is, but it is adjustable. The finish, and also the machine work on the pen is excellent, as is the fit. I believe the weak link here is the motor. It's just not smooth, and it's certainly not quiet. My belief is that someone starting out can buy a complete kit for about 1/2 of what this costs, get far more in terms of materials that are needed. It's very likely that you will also get a pen that is not as nice aesthetically, but may run far better.Sorry, but I find this one a bit disappointing. One issue I had is that when adjusting the stroke length it feels very gritty, not smooth, at all..

Nice for practice
I'm new to tattooing and have enjoyed using this pen. It seems like a nice quality for the price (this is the most expensive tattoo pen I have so I don't know how it holds up to more expensive machines, but for getting into tattooing I think it's worked well). The battery lasts a while and it's easy to hold. I've only used practice skins and am still learning the basics so someone more veteran to tattooing may have more to say, but for just playing around with the idea of tattooing I think its good.

Stable Function and Light Weight
The Dragonhawk X2 wireless is amongst my favorite wireless tattoo machines. It has several adjustable settings which I really appreciate. I consider myself a complete beginner but this machine makes things simple. It's so much better than having to be connected to a power source all the time. The battery last several sessions in my experience, if working on small pieces. Well worth the cost in my opinion. It should last a long time, based on the quality im feeling when I hold this.

Decent Beginner Built-in Battery
This wireless tattoo pen machine is the model X2, and would be a decent choice for a beginner to learn on. The grip is comfortable to hold for an extended time. It runs fairly smoothly and it is quiet until reaching the higher voltages which is typical. It adjusts the voltages in 0.1V increments rather than a percentage setting like some of the other cheaper machines. The battery is a good capacity at 1700mAh which is charges relatively quickly and lasts a lot longer. Unfortunately, the battery is built-in rather than swappable so one does have to stop in order to recharge.
