Q: Does the stainless steel one, without the powder coating, get hot to the touch?

No, it is very well insulated for both hot and cold. You'll be able to notice whether the drink inside is very hot because it will be slightly warmer than ambient temperature to the touch, but not enough to be anywhere near uncomfortable

Q: Does this friction fit lid stay on with hot drinks? I have one that the lid rises up out of the cup from the steam/heat!

Twist the lid a quarter turn while inserting it into the cup (like your tightening a lid onto a jar, after it seats into the cup twist it the opposite way a quarter turn. Works like a charm!

Q: Will this tumbler take sublimation?

Sublimation? You mean will it turn from a solid into a gas without first turning into a liquid? No, this mug won't ever do that, sorry.

Q: How is it spill proof if the lid does not close?

This is very amazing if you buy it you won’t regret it
