it’s a must if you have gotten this far
dan abnett closed the saga, the story is amazing, but like with all large stories closing it out is hard, i’m sure Dan could have written several more volumesin this shows in the last few pages, where arcs, are either suddenly closed or just not addressed, and personally i was a little frustrated by thisi’m sure some of the stories will will be in the futureFor Loken, first amounts hero’s of humanity

Amazing narrative and writing genius.
The way Dan abnett was able to bring this series to a close was amazing, my heart was literally in my mouth at some parts. Props to everyone who was involved in the horus heresy, just a shame it had to end.

End and death bill 3
Half way through very enjoyable (lots of treads to draw to and end).

The Eventual Death
Well.Take this as a spoiler-ridden overview of this final trilogy. On the whole, bloated. It is akin to the movies of The Hobbit - greedily mining the source material for any way to prolong and profit. William King once handled this part of the story in just a few pages… here, it is dragged to torturous lengths, neutering the drama and urgency. In Truth, this entire finale needed only the length of the first instalment to tell its tale. That would have sufficed. Instead…Firstly, the gargantuan deus ex machina contrivance of The Warp… I have often read in Games Workshop interviews that whenever something doesn’t work or there is a contradiction then the standard card to play is “the Warp did it”. Here, that is the entire Imperial Tarot, with time and space and arenas of conflict being turned into often vast sandboxes with magic doors to shuttle players between appointments. It is beyond convenient, and the sense of… well, there is a common term for characters being preserved against all odds. People say it is because “they are wearing Plot Armour”. Here, characters are wearing plot armour, flying plot jets, using plot weapons and leaping through magic plot holes. It RIPS me from the drama of every other moment The moments I enjoyed in this final episode were Erebus being unable to exert magical influence over the insane, grief-stricken Blood Angels, and most of Sigismund’s combat sequences were good. The Astronomicon being re-lit was quite cheesy but exciting… it reminds me of so many moments where the power of goodness can’t be snuffed out by the dark, like The Fifth Element, The Grinch..Probably the main reason for the three star review is that after all the gallons of ink and trees consumed, the final battle is so agonised by sleight of hand, by dimensional-shifting… I literally skip-scanned through Loken’s vapid filler battle with a bunch of centaurs spouting Mourneval chat (really? REALLY?) because , if I’m honest, I could not bare any more procrastination. And the titular end and death finally stumbles along over the finish line, the thesaurus exhausted as all the various little potential battles draw to a close. Weirdly, it reminded me of a deceit from Masters of the Universe Revelation - the part where Evil Lyn convinced Skeletor to “let the power return” so as to create a window of opportunity to get the upper hand. Of all we could have hoped for on this ride, after so long, I would have hoped that at least that last vital act would be anything but… tawdry? If they didn’t really have anything to add… if they didn’t have “the goods”, best to keep this brief. We all knew where it was going, but to do THREE volumes and arrive at this shoulder-shrug is just cause for a review.Smoke, mirrors and fillers.

Amazing Finish.
Can not believe it is actually over. What an amazing ending to a truly great series. Was pleasantly surprised at the detail in the final fight. There are certain things that will upset people but those folks can not be helped. Accept that some of the story lines are meant to have open ended interpretations and you will walk away happy. Abnett delivers.
