Disappointing
I found this book very disappointing. As a psychotherpist I was hoping to find activities I could use with my therapy dog in sessions with my clients that would address their particular psychological issues. This book is more for people who are working with the disabled or elderly in hospitals or clinics, etc. It is virtually of no value to me in the CBT and psychodynamic work I do. I would love to find a book that does address to the use of therapy dogs in a private in-office psycholtherapy setting.

Getting started--Basic AAT Concepts and Activities9. Hand signals10. AAT Activities that Motivate11. AAT Games that Motivate12. Mastering Daily Living Skills13. Thinking Ahead--Going Beyond14. Only the Beginning. The strength of this book is chapters 8 - 11, which tell you what and how to teach your dog as well as how these exercises will benefit a handicapped person. The book is easy to understand. It is a great book for people who want to do therapy dog work but do not know exactly what and how to do it. Ready to Serve, Ready to Save: Strategies for Real-Life Search & Rescue Missions

Excellent Resource!
I have just finished reading Animal Assisted Therapy Activities to Motivate and Inspire. I loved the positive approach and the sense of humor clearly detailed in this book. Concern for the well-being of both the dog and the person the dog is visiting is the focus of this teaching/learning method. During a recent trip to Chicago, I had the delightful experience of watching one of Nancy Lind's classes and seeing in person how the dogs (and their owners) responded to her method. My next step will be to see how my own dog--Rocky, a Soft-Coated Wheaten--will do as we try out some of the wonderful activities explained in the book. Thanks, Nancy!

Animal Assisted Therapy Activities to Motivate and Inspire
As a retired RN who has worked in a rehabilitation hospital, I have been interested in joining an assisted therapy dog group. I'd love to share my canine friend, in an effort to help others in some way. I know that the visit itself can be therapeutic. I'm excited to learn of the many activities explained in this book that can be used during the assisted therapy visits, depending on the site visited. There are approximately 50 activities described. Depending on the goals, the parent, teacher, therapist, layperson, etc., can review the charts, at the end of the book, which catagorize activities that can be used to improve the social, cognitive, language and daily living skills. A great resource!

perfect, bar the title
This was an easily digested , straight to the point about animal assisted therapy. This book is perfect for anyone who wants to know more or train , or who works with a therapy animal. However, the title maybe wouldve been a bit more helpful if it was focused on disabled or handicapped individuals as this is where the authors experience lies, not necessarily for a therapy setting. Still a fantastic read, and extremely helpful
