Only hub that works flawlessly with my Macbook Air M1, with some caveats
As many of you know, Macs are super fussy with peripherals. I tested 6 other USB-C hubs on my Mac and this is the only one that will charge from both of the Mac USB-C ports. All the other ones would NOT charge when connected to the forward port. The HDMI port also works flawlessly with my Lenovo monitor, every time I boot up. Can't say the same for some of the other USB-C hubs I tried. Also it actually has two USB-A ports, one on each side. The Amazon ad does not show that the other side of the hub also has a port. I have a Wavelink 7-port (powered) USB 3.0 hub connected to one of the ports on the hub, and it works flawlessly, so that give me 7 additional ports. I have not tested the memory card slots, so don't know about those. That being said here are the caveats with this hub: - If you disconnect power to the hub while charging it, it pretty much kicks out anything connected to the hub. This is common knowledge now with a Mac; this won't happen on a Windows laptop. If you look at a lot of ads now for USB-C hubs, they will tell you this, so this is nothing unusual if you own a Mac. Don't be copying files over with an external drive connected to the hub, if you want to disconnect power. - The USB-C socket for data transmission is really loosey goosey. There is no positive 'click' when you plug a cable in. Just stick it in as far as you can, and you should connect up. - There are a lot of negative reviews about this hub, in regards to it failing after a few months or a year. Well the thing has a 2-year warrantee from Kingston, so just send it back for refund or replacement. A lot of the USB-C hubs on Amazon are made by non-descript vendors from China, and are lucky to have a 1-year warrantee, if you can contact the company at all.

Nice looking device, but not all the ports work
**Update: I did a little more research and found that the issue is not with this Kingston device, but is it the the Luna display key. I attempted to use the Apple USB type C dongle in the TypeC Port of the of the Kingston device and found this USB device to be working. After doing more research on the Luna display, I found that they intentionally disable the use of their devices through hubs. Other than that, solid hub. Hardware seems high quality. I like not losing a USB Type C port when charging, and having both SD and Micro SD readers in one hub. **Old review: The hub itself is of pretty sturdy construction. However, the extra USB type C port doesn't not work properly. I attempted to use my Luna Display to connect my iPad as a second monitor but when connected through the hub, the device as never detected. The charging passthrough appears to be working. However, I can't comment on whether or not my Macbook is charging at full speed. I will be returning this device as I purchased the device to be able to charge my MacBook and use my iPad as an external display at the same time.

Nice USB-C hub
I have been looking for a USB-C hub for my Chromebook (as it only has 2 USB ports and one is used for charging. There really isn't a lot out there as far as USB-C hubs go. This unit fills gap nicely. Please note, the reviews saying this unit doesn't support pass through power are INCORRECT; it does. The key is only one of the USB-C ports on board this unit supports power. You have to look for the lightening bolt symbol and plug your charger into that one only. Also, if you're not charging, both USB-C ports operate the same. You can use any device in either USB-C port. At first I was disappointed that it only had 2 USB-C ports but when one considers I was using one of them for video, I just stopped using my dongle for video and plugged the HDMI cable directly into this unit -- thus freeing up a USB-C port. This unit travels well too. As a consultant, I'm on the road every week. This unit has not let me down yet. Now I can extend my Chromebook to run power, a mouse, video, (a SD card if needed) all without dongles AND having one USB-C port free for future use!

Reliable and necessary for MacBook users
-1 star because why not a network jack? I have to carry a USB to RJ adapter in addition. Still a great product. Buying a second time since it’s so nice someone “borrowed” it forever. Last one was working strong for 3+ years. Figured I should leave a review.

Finally a hub with PROPER port placement
Absolutely love this hub. First off, the thermal performance. I can connect all the ports simultaneously and it only gets slightly warm. This is a big deal for me as other hubs I’ve tried will get hot even with just a couple things plugged in. Second, the port placement. Love how there is a USB-A connection on BOTH sides, so no matter how your desk layout is arranged, you’ll always have USB facing you. Having HDMI on the long end of the hub makes this an HDMI extension, which is much better than HDMI on the side of the hub. You won’t have to bend wires or have the hub in a weird position to get connected. Only complaint would be that the MicroSD is a little hard to push in, but it’s like that on other hubs too. Besides, not many computers have microSD natively anyway. Good hub, totally recommend

One of the best USB-C hubs out there, but not the best choice for the iPad Pro (2018)
As USB-C hubs go this is one of the most versatile out there. That said, it is not a great match if you are looking for a solution for the iPad Pro (2018). The cable is just slightly too short and dangles from the iPad. With that said, this is one of the most hubs on the market. Kingston’s hub features both a PD port and a USB-C data port, something you almost never see on a hub. Be aware the that but is significantly larger than it appears in the photos and is made completely of plastic.

Note: Does not support thunderbolt
This is a decent hub and one of the very few portable hubs with data passthrough from a second USB-C port. However, I just learned the hard way that Thunderbolt seems not to be supported. There's a lot of confusion about this and I don't think the manufacturers are being transparent enough about it. USB 3 and Thunderbolt 3 are all different things that happen to be supported or not over a USB-C connection. In my case, I did hope that I could use a USB-C to Thunderbolt 2 adapter with an audio interface, but no dice. Luckily, I can just use one of my other USB-C ports, but I really would have loved to use just one cable for everything.

Not cheap, but worth it
Ordered this for my new MacBook as that has only one USB-C connector. At first I only used it to charge the MacBook while running backups on an external USB-C hard drive (LaCie LaCie Rugged 1TB USB-C and USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive + 1mo Adobe CC All Apps (STFR1000800) ). Worked flawlessly. Then I got a 4k TV for my office as a combo "projection screen" but also wanted to use it as external monitor. Since Apple doesn't support 4k AirPlay, I had to go hard-wired via HDMI. After reading all the bad reviews about the original Apple HDMI adapter (basically confirmed in store by one of their associates), I decided to bring this from home and give it a try. Again, it didn't disappoint. I now can use my 50" 4k TV on the wall like 4 25" external monitors with 1920x1080 resolution each. I have not tried sending 4k video streams through this, so I cannot say at this time whether its performance is sufficient for that. I'm now ordering a second one for my home.

Impressive functionality for one device
I used to connect all my cables directly to my work laptop, and since moving them all to this device I haven't noticed a difference in the connectivity or performance. Currently connected to a monitor, mouse, audio and sometimes SD card. Having this makes it much easier switching between my work laptop and personal laptop. Highly recommend

4 years later and it still works perfecty!
This is a high quality little hub! I purchased this originally to use with a 2018 iPad Pro back in 2020 and it worked perfectly for the iPad despite Apple's horrible iPadOS Files App. Today, I use it with my M3 MacBook Air. I am not a creator. So I don't need insane ports, power and features, but I do need good reliability which this hub has been. Whenever I've needed it, it's never failed me. This thing has every port I'd ever need and is very well made. The price is also much lower than it used to be when I purchased it!
