Hunter Fan Cassius Indoor/Outdoor Ceiling Fan with Pull Chain Control, Metal, Fresh White Finish, 52 Inch

Overall the fan seems to be of good quality. It’s quiet and aesthetically pleasing. The fasteners for the fan blades seemed a little less robust than I would’ve expected so hopefully I don’t have a blade fly off. The stars I knocked off are for my concern over the blade fasteners and this being the first fan I’ve ever had to balance out of the box. When I’ve had fan wobble before, it was always a loose nut or something. In this case I had to use the included weights to get rid of the wobble. Maybe those who’ve had parts fly off at high speed never checked for or tried to minimize their fans wobbling. Just a guess.

I got this fan hoping it would move a lot of air on our porch. The CFM rating was pretty high by the specs shown here on Amazon at 5537 CFM. However, if you look on the box, printed on one of the top flaps, it clearly shows that this fan is only 4031 CFM. After installing the fan I can confirm that is does not move near as much air as I had hoped it would. Why can't they just make the fan spin a little faster? Assembling the fan is also a bit convoluted compared to other Hunter fans I've put up over the years. I think this is due to the motor being exposed rather than it being encased in a decorative shell. The only good thing about assembly was that each set of screws is put into it's own specially marked bag; one has a black triangle, one has three black bars, one has an empty circle, etc. The pull switch works fine but I had to rotate it to straighten it up. As installed it was rotated about 30 degrees making your pull down not as effective. The pull switch was also made of plastic so I'm not sure how long it will last. The fan spins smooth and quiet and I didn't have to balance it after assembly. Edit: After a week I had returned the fan and had purchased the Hunter Windbound fan instead. It is also 52" but delivers 6,032 CFM and I can really feel the difference. It does cost more but it was definitely worth it. Now I can really feel the air moving. It produces almost twice the amount of wind as the Cassius.

The old fan in my living room had 5 blades and this one just has 3, so I was concerned about its ability to cool, but for whatever reason, I think it moves either a greater volume of air or moves the same amount quicker, because it cools a lot better than the old one. I've changed out ceiling fans in my younger days, but I was unable to find the breaker for the wall switch for the fan, so I called out an electrician. That also accounts for my not rating the Ease Of Installation. My sense is that anyone who has switched out a fan before will not have any trouble with this one, but it did take him a while. I got this model rather than one with a remote control because I already had a smart switch for it which the electrician also installed and I didn't really think that I would need anything but turning it off and on, which is in Alexa's wheelhouse, but now I'm questioning that decision, even though it would add to the already high remote count on the sofa. When I come in hot from the outside, I want it on high and before long, I need to turn it down, so a remote would save me from having to stand up and pull the chain. (How lazy does *that* make me sound?) Also, the down draft was too much for me and to change it to an updraft, I had to fetch a step stool, so a remote would have been nice to have, though now that it's on up, that's probably where I'll leave it. Nevertheless, it's nice to have a fan working again.
