Faber-CastellPolychromos Artists' Single Pencil - Colour 186 Terracotta

Colors very smooth and dark!!

I was hoping this pencil would create bright white coverage and highlights in my graphite & pen sketches on brown kraft paper but is barely visible. It does give a nice medium value when used to fill an area on the bare paper, but does not leave even a faint mark over graphite or other medium.

I bought this because I wanted a deeper black to my drawings and after using it, I realized it’s not really much darker than some of the other charcoal/graphite pencils I have. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great but don’t expect it to be much different than your darkest blacks you currently have.

As an artist, contrast and value is extremely important and getting a dark black usually takes many layers to achieve. This pencil lays down a deep, rich black with less effort than any pencil I've ever used. This is my favorite black pencil and I haven't broken a led yet. I promise that this pencil is definitely worth every cent.....

I got this because I was looking for the perfect black, or if it actually exists. I think it does and this really helped my charcoal drawings shade darker contrasts of black. I used this wherever I needed a strong dark, dark shade for contrast. Especially around eyes, hair, and fine adjusting to make the paper 'pop' behind the colour. I especially liked this because it was compatible with my charcoal, it made a wonderful transition without compromising my drawing. Great pencil all the way around.

I am a big fan of Faber-Castell products and Polychromos pencils. I first purchased a tin of 24 then added to my collection individually. All my purchases are genuine. However the 4 that arrived today, Mauve, Gold, Silver, Copper are not. As soon as I unpacked them they all felt wrong. A closer inspection proves I am right. Genuine Polychromos have the following marks.1) Germany. 2) Colour name is in both German & English. 3) It should have 9201- before the colour number. 4) The Bar Code is stuck on.5) Pigment is inferior to my existing collection .These 4 pencils show.1) Made in Germany. = wrong2) Colour name is in English only.= wrong.3) It has colour number only,not 9201.=wrong.4) Bar Code is printed on the pencil no sticker. =wrong.5) The pigment is too soft and not rich enough to be a poly. After a few seconds of use I had to resharpen to a long point. The weight of these pencils is a few grms lighter than all my genuine pencils. I knew this as soon as I opened them. The Mauve is rich in colour but Gold,Silver and Copper are a poor substitute.I did not read any reviews as I have always trusted FC products. I shall be contacting FC and forward photographs and request their feedback.Very very disappointed as I needed these for a commission. I can't be bothered to send them back. I will use them and do my best.!!I have since had a reply from FC uk. They were non-committal but admitted there are fakes on the market and I should consider buying direct from them in order to be sure they are genuine. I have started my commission and they appear ok. Will be fully aware for future purchases.

Fake Faber castell polychromos pencil. I noticed as soon as I received the pencil that it was a fake just by picking it up. After closer examination the font is slightly different and does not give the same results when used. I will be throwing away. Waste of money.

These pencils were rattling loose in a card sleeve style envelope, and given the horrid weather today, it was pretty soggy. DH collected it at the door. When I opened it, 6 out of 8 of my beautiful pencils were broken. What a waste. How do you justify packing a single gift card in 2 bags and a box, yet do this to premium quality art supplies? The pencils themselves are fine and exactly what I expected. not fakes as others have found. Just broken!

Really good for highlighting work. Well worth the money. It came loose in a box with other items so it could have got damaged, not even wrapped in a bit of bubble wrap. 😞The pencil goes on easy and has a creamy feel when using it. I think it will run out quickly so its a good job its cheap. Seller should do multipack deals and wrap the product.

Die polychromos sind super Farben und ich liebe sie.Meinen Abzug betrifft die Verpackung der Farben. Die Farben kamen in ihrem Paket nur mit einer Plastikfolie drum herum an. Es war kein extra Schutz dabei oder etwas ausgepolstert. Weswegen ich 4 Stifte mit abgebrochener Miene in meinem Paket hatte. Das finde ich sehr schade und ärgerlich denn die Farben sind nicht gerade günstig. Und jeder der malt kennt es wie ärgerlich es ist wenn die Mienen der Stifte innerlich ebenfalls gebrochen sind und man dadurch eine Menge Farbverlust hat.In Zukunft sollte man das Paket auspolstern oder die Farben separat in gepolsterte Folie wickeln um das zu vermeiden.
