From the photo it appears one leg is longer than the other, Are both sides 6.5 inches?

The shelf bracket size is 6.5x5.27 inch, not both sides 6.5 inche. Thanks & Best Regards.

Did anyone use anchors?

No anchors were used . My husband found the studs to screw into.

This shelf bracket can able to hold up to 400 lbs. per pair. If you have other question, you can contact us at any time . Thanks & Best Regards
