MVP hiking shorts!
I bought these shorts on a lark, last minute, for a trip to Arizona and they ended up being my favorite hiking shorts of the trip! I packed a second pair of shorts from another outdoor brand that I've owned longer but these Columbia shorts were so comfy that I kept choosing them over my other pair. They're incredibly lightweight and pack nicely. Though they wrinkled in my bag, my body heat loosened them up and you'd never know they were wrinkled. The fabric was perfect in the heat. Very lightweight and breathable, I was comfortable (or as comfortable as one can be when it's over 100 degrees) and the UPF claims held up - no sunburn despite the intense Arizona sun. They stretched and moved well but they never got shapeless or baggy. The belt was a nice touch, no slippage or tugging them back up, even with my phone in the pockets. On that note, I found the the pockets to be deep *enough* (compared to other shorts) but my phone did fall out at one point. On steeper trails where I was taking bigger steps, I was a little worried I would lose my phone. My only complaint, and I suppose this is more an issue with my body type, is that despite the 6 inch inseam, they still rode up where my thighs rubbed together. Typically one side would ride up and, on one long hiking day in the Grand Canyon, I got a rash from the friction of the hem on one leg rubbed on the bare skin of my other thigh. It didn't happen on shorter hikes but if you have thicker thighs that are prone to chub rub, you may want to consider longer shorts or an anti-chaffing product. It's not enough to stop me from wearing them, but I wouldn't mind if they had an extra inch in the inseam.Overall, they live up to the claims of being breathable and having UPF protection. I found them to be flattering to my curves, and they didn't look too technical so they don't look out of place if you run into town. They're not perfect due to the shallower pockets and the bunching between my thighs, but I still kept choosing them over my other hiking shorts.

Nice shorts but a little short in the waist
I have found that Columbia bottoms can run a little small, so I bought these one size up. I've noticed that they fit okay, except the length from crotch to waist could use another half inch or so. The fit is a little odd. With that said, I really love the number of pockets these shorts have, and I love the quick-dry fabric this brand uses. The green khaki is a nice color and I know it will match a lot.

Comfortable and provides security
These were purchased for three reasons. The first is the UPF sun protection. The second is the quick dry as I use them kayaking and/or swimming. The third is the security of a zipped pocket. I keep my car key zipped away so I don't lose it, and don't have to leave it unattended wherever my stuff is when going to parks. They also happen to be very comfortable, and I think they look good too. I like the combination of elastic and a belt. Once the elastic goes you can still use them because you have the belt. What I don't understand, though, is why different colors have different pricing. I would have purchased a couple more pairs had the other colors not been more expensive. Previously I purchased from Bealls and had four colors. After having lost weight I needed a smaller size so got two pairs through Amazon. Thank you, RM.

Plus size hiker
I was leery about purchasing these shorts as I'm 5' 7" and obese. I was getting ready for a vacation in Arizona to the Grand Canyon and Sedona. I hiked part of the rim trail with these shorts on and they did pretty great. They rode up somewhat but over all were comfortable and had more stretch than I initially thought they would. I highly recommend these.

Comfy But Not Super Practical
These shorts are comfortable and quick dry - generally good quality. But even with the elastic waist you need the belt if you plan to put anything in the pockets or they will slide down. And the pockets are kind of useless. The top front pockets are not zip close so you risk losing whatever you put in them (I lost my face mask) and the two side pockets are too small to be useful. I barely fit my little snack pack in them. My phone (which also acts as my camera on scenic hikes) had to stay safe tucked in my pack so a lot less photos than usual.

Great fit, easy care shorts
I have only had these shorts for a few days, but the fit is nice...plenty of room, but not baggy legged as some are. Fabric is comfortable and I know from past experience they will wash well and dry quickly. I wear shorts for the times we are at the beach with our boat, and they are easy to move in, getting in and out of the boat and if they get wet they dry quickly. The length is perfect for someone short like me. They are long enough to be decent but don't make ladies with short legs feel like their pants cover all their leg.Casual look and feel, yet when we dock restaurant side I feel they look good enough to manage indoor seating.I am thinking of ordering another pair in black. This color is India ink, and is a dark blue grey color...very nice. These shorts are exactly as advertised.

Great for keeping cool outdoors
I like the stretchy waist, very comfy! But the legs have no real give to them, and since I have big thighs, they weren’t as comfortable for canoeing all day as a pair of running shorts. A little tight and restrictive on the thighs. If you aren’t curvy then it might not be a problem. They also rolled up while sitting in the canoe all day so I had to keep rolling them back down a little. But when standing they are nice and breezy. Love the color. I’ll just make sure not to wear these for paddling but rather for hiking or general wear.

Fabulous hiking shorts
These are a great fit and very light for hiking. My go to shorts for summer hiking. They dry very quickly too. Colombia makes amazing clothes. Pricey but worth it.

Zippered pocket too small
Zippered pocket too small for anything bigger that a key. Definitely not fitting a small phone. A bigger secure side pocket would be a plus.
