Love Brides of the Blood Mummy

5 Stars With a Caveat
Mondo Macabro comes through again, digging up this obscure, 1973 French-Spanish coproduction. The print quality is excellent and the extras are enjoyable. I always appreciate a company that puts in so much effort to revive a film that was all but lost. Such effort will always warrant a 5-star review as far as I’m concerned. As for the movie itself, let’s just say no one will ever refer to Love Brides of the Blood Mummy as a hidden gem. Fact is, it’s freaking awful. A truly dismal viewing experience. The movie is nearly dialogue free. There are lonnnnng, drawn out scenes of female victims being captured and tormented that go on and on and on to no purpose. You will be hitting the “time remaining” button on your remote more than once.According to David Flint’s commentary, the exteriors were filmed in Brittany. These pretty scenes of the French countryside in winter are about all this movie has going for it.If you are committed to watching Blood Mummy, do yourself a favor and view it with David Flint’s commentary. He does a good job of keeping things interesting and you will be missing absolutely nothing in terms of plot or storyline.
