From the Pen Writer of Nancy Drew
From the pen writer that wrote most of the original 25 Nancy Drew books, another mystery series that is sure to delight readers. This is a great series for beginning mystery readers, however it is written so well that it is even a light read for older audiences. If you enjoyed the Nancy Drew series these books are definitely a most read. There are several elements that are very similar to Nancy Drew, however it is not the same mysteries rewritten. This mystery is not quite as exciting as the other two as it is more of your typical amateur sleuth mystery, but it still leaves you wishing there were more books in the series.

Did the pearls ever exist? If so, where are they?
Madge is back at school in Claymore, Michigan. This term she has formed a secret club - Skull and Crossbones. The book starts at the initiation for latest person to join, Cara. Poor Cara has to go down into the dark Brady's basement where there is some liver hanging and a shallow bowl of water. Having accomplished that, Cara is then sent to the Swenster mansion which has been abandoned for the last eight years! The girls wait anxiously for Cara's return. What is taking her so long? Poor Cara comes back terrified saying that she has seen a ghost digging in the gardens of the mansion! Madge is now curious. Who is this ghost? What do Madge and Cara discover when they return another night?Learning about some pearls that disappeared many years ago, will the mystery be solved when Miss Swenster comes back to the mansion to get it ready for sale? This, the last in the series, is another great Madge adventure for young readers. HOWEVER there are a couple things that need to be noted. This series was written in 1932 so the word Negro was common back then. The Swenster's gardener was a Negro. Miss Swenster had adopted a boy from the orphanage who turned bad. The author has one of the characters saying that he must have had been from bad heredity! This is certainly something most people would never say today and as a mom to several adopted children to whom I was reading this book aloud I had to quickly change the story a little and miss out that part! I just read the story as if it were her son so that there was no slur on adoption as it really does "paint" adopted kids as bad.Still a great mystery and one we all enjoyed.
