Based on the popular cult comic book franchise of the same name, Preacher is an absurdly twisted and action-packed thrill ride. When Jesse Custer, a small-town preacher with a criminal past, realizes God is absent from Heaven, Jesse sets out to find Him. Along for the ride are Tulip, Jesse’s volatile true love, and Cassidy, a 119-year-old Irish vampire, who is Jesse’s best mate. The gang ends up in New Orleans, where they must dodge local gangsters, dangerous secret agents in white suits and the Saint of Killers, an unstoppable murderous cowboy from Hell.SynopsisThe second season of “Preacher” is a genre-bending thrill ride that follows West Texas preacher Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), his badass ex-girlfriend Tulip (Academy Award nominee Ruth Negga) and Irish vampire Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) as they embark on a road trip to find God and are thrust into a twisted battle spanning Heaven, Hell and everywhere in between.Special Features“Raising the Stakes: Action On Set” featuretteGag Reel

Worth bingeing.
Great story with some of the best character acting I've seen in a series. It's a toss up between Joseph Gilgun and Ruth Negga for my personal favourite but then Cassidy's son comes along and steals the show!Starts going a bit awry in Season 3 then almost loses my attention in Season 4 - but decent finale.

Down New Orleans Way
A four disc dvd box set containing all thirteen episodes of the tv show Preacher. The story of a reverend with a very special power, and his two friends as they go in search of God. Literally.Adapted from a very popular comic, none of the above will make any sense to you if you haven't seen season one. So if not, go and get that.If you have, read on.The episodes all run for forty minutes [approx.] and are spread out over four discs. Picking up from the end of season one, Jesse, Tulip and Cassidy are looking for god. The Saint of Killers is on their trail. The search takes them to New Orleans, where two of them have to confront their pasts. And where a mysterious organisation await. They regard Jesse as just the man they've been looking for. Meantime, what happened to Eugene? You'll find out....As with the first season, this isn't a direct adaptation of the comic at all. But just like that, it takes elements of It and manages to use them in it's own way to make something that really does capture the story and spirit of the whole thing. Even when it's not stuff from the comics, as a key storyline for Cassidy here is somewhat different to the printed page. A key story for Tulip is wholly original. And what happens to Eugene is not something you will be familiar with, but most definitely keeping in the spirit of Preacher.Going up to thirteen episodes from ten works, although the Tulip story I mentioned does feel a bit of a diversion at times. Even though the road movie format that the early episodes promise soon settles down to a story in a singular location, it never drags at all. Of the new characters you meet, the actor who plays one particular lead role from the comic is absolutely perfect. And the three series leads really come into their own as well, each really making the most of some very strong material. It manages to be both outrageous black comedy and good serious thought provoking drama with moral concerns to ponder as well. And it manages to end on a very big cliffhanger that those who do know the comic will find very ominous indeed.A superb second season of a show that has really found it's feet and come into it's own. Well worth five stars..As with season one, all Eugene's dialogue is subtitled and those can't be turned off. Also a couple of episodes do have very brief moments of flashing images, so beware those if they bother you. Each disc begins with a short anti piracy, but they can be skipped via the next button on the dvd remote. The dvd comes with the usual flyer with code for downloading a digital copy of the show onto a digital device. There are just two extras:Raising the stakes - action on set. A five minute feature on disc one about the stunt work. It's short but interesting, not least for hearing what the three leads really sound like.Gag reel: three mins worth of outtakes on disc four. As ever with these there's a lot of silly face pulling for the sake of it and tomfoolery, but some good and genuine ones do pop up.Language and subtitle options on the dvd are:Languages: English, French, German.Subtitles; English, Arabic, French, German, Polish, Turkish.

It's not always great, but it does have its moments
Bizzare, surreal, violent and often hilarious. It's not always great, but it does have its moments. I don't normally read comic books, but I read Preacher back in the 90's because it was reprinted in the Judge Dredd Megazine, and I thought it was superb. The series isn't quite as good- it differs quite a bit and at season 2 we've still yet to delve into Jesse Custer's childhood, which I thought was one of the better parts in the comic. A lot of what happens in the show seems to not have much to do with the plot, which outside of the quest to find God seems to be made up of short arcs involving a particular bad-guy hunting down the Preacher. The parts of Tulip and the vampire sidekick are well very played, Jesse Custer slightly less so. The saint of killers is nowhere near as interesting or threatening as in the comic, but Herr Starr is superb in this show and I hope we see much more of him. This very much seems like a show without an overall plan, that they'll go from one scenario to the next without much thought, and much of it seems pointless- there was seemingly little point to getting to know the townsfolk in season one when none of them feature in season 2. I'll stick with the show, it is worth a viewing. If you enjoyed shows like 'Banshee' and enjoyed the movie 'A life less ordinary' then you will probably enjoy this series as it seems like a melding of those two.

Season 1 & 2 Review: Excellent TV Series!
Season 1 & 2 Review:So, this is a series for folks who enjoy a "slow burn", and an emerging story that's centred more around character development than a hastily unravelled plot. That's not to say there isn't a plot here, there is. But the plot is not the centre of the show, the story is going to be spread out over multiple series. The characters, and the relationships they have with each other, is at the heart of this series, and how these relationship develop over time - peaking, troughing, adapting, aching, forming, failing - that is the main focus. The show also explores themes ranging from the limits of parental love to the morality of overpowering another's will by sheer force, even when it's for their own good. And, of course, there's the satirical, though perhaps not yet cynical, gaze at God and religion. My point here is that this is a tale told with a little more complexity than what some may like, but for those who like complexity in their characters and their relationships, and who like a story to slowly unravel, this is for them. And if you like vampires, and the Word of God in an interesting pair of hands, and puppies. You're in for a treat!I, for one, can't wait for Season 3.
