Castle Kitchen Marvelous Mint Dark Hot Chocolate Mix

I have extreme reactions to even a small amount of dairy, and so I need to buy dairy-free stuff which limits me. I love cocoa but a lot of pre-mix stuff has dairy in it. This does not. AND! It tastes GREAT!!! Its kind of like a mint chocolate girl scout cookie. Its delicious and smooth and tastes/drinks like "normal hot cocoa". I love that the ingredient list is 7 items, all of which I am familiar. The price is a tad high compared to a "normal" cocoa, but for me its absolutely worth it. I'm not vegan but it being vegan and plant based are a nice little bonus. If you're vegan, this is SO worth it. I am in love with this cocoa but try to keep it for a treat, otherwise I'll drink the whole thing in a couple of days!

What a nice treat for those of us who are dairy and gluten free! The mint comes out nicely with the chocolate.

First off, if you love mint, this cocoa mix is for you. This Canadian company does an awesome job, and you walk away with chocolatey minty fresh breath afterwords. They recommend two tablespoons as a serving, but I’ve been using one tablespoon and am happy with that ratio (plus it makes it last longer;). You can use just water as a base, but it won’t have that creaminess a lot of us are used to. Personally, I’ve found that just water or just milk is just okay, but using a half water, half milk of choice ratio is greatness. Get a mug and fill it halfway with water, then zap it in the microwave for a minute and a half or so. Stir in a tablespoon of marvelous mint until it’s dissolved. Next, pour in your milk of choice and stir. Give it a try and adjust cocoa if needed. This method may be a little unorthodox, but it gives the perfect drinking temp right off the bat;) Enjoy your minty goodness!

Container was fully sealed, but when opened it was only half full. I know it is filled by weight and some settling would happen over time. But it is very weird for its container to be only half full, that means it is filled with half air and air can make food products age in staleness and be less fresh....though this being cocoa and sugar those shouldn't go stale, but since the mint is listed only as natural flavor then I have no idea if it can go stale or not (whether it is made with any oils that may age badly or not). The flavor was dark chocolate and mint that was sweetened with sugar. It does dissolve fairly quickly and stir easily into warm to hot water/coffee. A strong cup will have excess chocolate collect near the bottom of your cup as you drink it, so a stirring near the end is beneficial just like any other cocoa mix. I gave it 4 stars mostly for only half filling the container. Either they could use a vibrating machine to settle the product as the container is filled if it is a settling issue and therefore use smaller containers to more accurately portray the amount therein. Or they have purposely made a doubly large container to falsely portray double the amount actually within the container to customers who may buy it when comparing sizes and prices. Either way it is a false and misleading container for the actual amount inside it; if I had a small kitchen scale I would of measured the contents to see if it was really 14 ounces or not. I am glad I bought this to see if it would be a good option for some Christmas gifts. I do not think half full containers will make nice Christmas gifts no matter the quality of the chocolate inside, people would feel like they received a messed up product missing half its contents...so it would be seen as only half a gift. I must therefore give this product only half the stars it could get since I received only half a container of product. So 2.5 stars, since it is enjoyable I rounded up to 3.

This product is great as an all natural, my only complaint I thought would have more of a mint taste to it. I love the taste of chocolate mint, and to give this product a more mint flavor to my liking I added a mint creamer to it, which gave it more of a creamy taste. I gave it 4 stars cause even though this maybe my own personal taste buds, my granddaughter loves it.

Well balanced ingredients. Good mint flavor but not too much. Love the fact there are less unnecessary fillers, just chocolate and mint. Best cocoa mix on the market.

Our son has milk and egg allergies, and all the typical hot chocolate mixes at the store are not suitable for him. This is his favorite milk-free hot chocolate that we've tried so far. He mixes it with vanilla soy milk and just loves it. I've tried it with regular milk and find it delicious that way as well. We do have some issues with the hot cocoa not fully mixing in with the soy milk (leaves small clumps), but that is a very minor issue in our mind. But something to keep in mind if you're looking for something that mixes smoothly with soy milk. Maybe there's a trick to it that we don't know, but we do get those little lumps with mixing!

One thing I missed as a vegan was the occasional hot chocolate. For years, decades it is something I went without. If I was home I would heat up chocolate soy milk but the powder offers a very quick fix and is much more portable to cottages or visits at friends. I know people can make it, but I never bothered. In a Christmas gift basket I was gifted a Castle Kitchen hot chocolate mix and I was so delighted to have hot chocolate again. Yes I know those are high in sugar but sometimes you just want a treat. These are amazing. The mint, the double and the caramel… all winners and definitely an easy substitute for the milk based powers. Which I think is important in a vegan household who may have nonvegan visitors. Also a great option for lactose intolerant people.

I like it. Chocolate and minty, tastes more real. The mint taste is subtle but definitely there. As expected, it is thin when made with water, probably would be a lot thicker if made with milk. Makes a nice mocha when mixed with coffee!

My newborn was diagnosed with an allergy to cow's milk protein, so I in order to keep feeding him off of me, I needed a dairy/soy-free diet. I have a mocha every morning and was so happy to find this vegan and soy-free hot chocolate powder. I DO find it has more of a hot cocoa taste, so I do have to add a teaspoon of sugar to each serving. Of call their flavors I've tried (regular dark, caramel, and mint) this is my fave one!
