Sweet Biryani seasoning
This seems like a good base seasoning to tweak with your own spice additions. I sautéed onion, garlic and ginger in butter, added carrot, potato chunks and frozen peas, salt and pepper and 2 teaspoons seasoning for about 4 cups of vegetables. Then I added cooked chicken and some water and simmered about 10 minutes. I mixed some of this mix with cooked basmati rice and heated them together until everything was piping hot. Using it this way smelled wonderful but was sweeter than I wanted.Luckily the bag is huge so there is lots of seasoning for experimenting. I apologize to all the cooks who grew up making biryanis who are saying ‘that’s not how it is done!’ But this was my way to see how the biryani masala cooked up.

Packaged arrived opened
This package arrived open with the spices spilling from the bag and I am therefore unable and unwilling to use it. However, I am unable to return this. What a waste of money!

A fresh and exciting addition to my kitchen
This Zoff Shahi Biryani Masala was so fun to use! I'm new to trying to prepare Indian food at home. This spice mix made it so much easier to get an authentic taste to my favorite rice dish. It tastes and smells so fresh and delicious!

Not My Personal Favorite
Though the country of origin is India, this spice does not remind me of any Indian food I've ever tasted. And I've eaten a lot of it, in lots of places, including in India. My husband (who also loves Indian food) smelled this spice mixture and thought it might be slightly reminiscent of Indian food, but added it wasn't anything he wanted to try. I tried this a couple of times, on various chicken dishes and was not impressed either time. There's one overwhelming spice in there that I can't place, but I don't care for. I think it might be the mace. Though that's the last listed ingredient, I believe that might be the overwhelming one. The actual ingredients are not the ones listed on the website. The manufacturer's video of the biryani recipe looked a bit complicated. I did not make it. But this does not smell or taste like any biryani or masala dish I've ever had.On the upside, this spice comes in a strong, resealable pouch. The packing and use by dates are prominently displayed. The spice seems very fresh. There is plenty of it. Just because I didn't personally care for this, doesn't mean that others won't love it. It's an interesting combination of flavors.

More Ingredients Than The Listing Shows
I love to experiment with new spices and recipes and found this Shahi Biryani Masala spice mix to be a winner. The spice mix smelled nice and fresh when I opened the package and dinner was great! The package lists a lot more spices than the listing does! The listing: Kashmiri Chili Whole, Red Chili WholeThe package: Black pepper, cassia bark (that's cinnamon), clove, big cardamom, red chili, green cardamom, caraway seed, mace. The package is correct! The mixture is heavy on the cinnamon and pepper with clove and cardamom hints. Most of the mixture is finely ground but there were a few whole black peppers and some larger pieces as shown in my photo.Although the package directed me to the manufacturer's website for recipes that page was unfortunately blank. I lowered my rating by one star for this. No recipes were there so I went to youtube and watched a few videos and figured out what to do with it. I sauteed some onions, ginger, and garlic for a few minutes. Added in about 1/2 tablespoon of the spice mix and sauteed it for a minute more. Then added in leftover vegetables, a 14 ounce can of fire-roasted tomatoes, and a bunch of leftover rice and heated it all up well. Served with leftover chicken and everyone loved it. There was a LOT of food in the pan and so it wasn't all that spicy overall.Note that the spice mix has some heat and so it would be best to use caution until you figure out what is best for your situation. I was cooking in a 12" wide pan and added a lot of leftovers. If I were going to make a smaller recipe I'd only use a teaspoon or less. The package weighs 7.05 ounces so there is a huge amount of spice in there. The package has a zip close top but it didn't seem all that tight to me so I put the spices into a jar with a tight fitting lid before storing it in the refrigerator, as per the package instructions: "Refrigeration is recommended for longer storage life".Interesting mixture that smells heavenly when dinner is cooking!

Salty and weird taste
I wanted to like this so much but it just had a very weird flavor to it. I’ve tried many different brands of this same sort of packaged flavored dish but this one has a weird flair to it for some reason.

Wonderful spice blend with excellent aroma of cardamom and clove
The company who makes this has videos with recipes, and in fact, one is part of the listing that shows how to make shahi biryani masala. The recipe videos that I watched all use multiple spices, so this spice mix alone is not adequate, but they look so good that I am definitely going to try those out sometime. This has a wonderful aroma predominantly of the cardamom and clove. It is a mild spice blend (you'll need to add heat separately), but it's got such a wonderful flavor I don't consider that a negative since it also allows us to cook when our mild-loving friends visit. I used this when I made a rice and veggie dish, and it turned out fabulous. I did add cumin and turmeric (and of course salt) to my rice dish as well because I love those spice notes as well.I am not too worried about the packaging on this since this company also makes other spices. The bag is unusual though in that you have to slice an internal part open to get to the sealed spice mix. It doesn't have specific instructions, but I punctured the internal seal and cut it open with my kitchen shears, which allows me to use the zip seal feature to open and close my bag.I'm really happy with this blend and would get this again.
