Arabic-English Dictionary: The Hans Wehr Dict of Modern Written Arabic

A very useful, absolutely necessary dictionary for all students of Arabic - recommended to students once past the beginner's stage, as it helps to expand vocabulary much more than online translators. It is easy to use and well laid out.

Item arrived on time good quality just what I needed.

Excellent depth and coverage of the language. Be aware though this is an Arabic-English not English-Arabic dictionary. It makes a huge difference when looking up words. Perhaps best to get the usual bi-lingual versions.

About as useful as any book.Although I end up using google much more than this book.

Warning! This is not the most recent edition of the dictionary. I bought it because it says Nov. 2011, and the 4th edition is 1994, so I assumed it must be a reprint of the 4th edition. On the copyright page there's no date at all and no mention of what edition it is. The only date anywhere is at the end of the introduction, and it's November 1960! I feel the information given and the Nov. 2011 date is very misleading.

The dictionary lacks publishing date and edition number.The date (2011) specified in the item's description at Amazon.it does not show anywhere in the dictionary (front/back cover, introduction etc).Page numbers (around 1100) are also different to the number reported at Amazon.itFrom information in inside cover, the publisher appears to be snowballpublishing.com, different from the one described at Amazon.it.All the above makes me doubt the authenticity of the item. very well organized. Good to know many non-popular meanings of certain common words. For e.g 'Hijab', popularly known as a headscarf has other meanings too like 'Barrier'. As a mater of fact, The Koran contains 5 verses with this word and not once is it referring to a headscarf which is a biblical concept rather. SURPRISE!
