You may need to practice to get used to using a grabber so be careful about first impressions.I use this tool to pick up everything from a tic tic to a cell phone. (Yes, you can pick up an average size smartphone as long as you use it properly) I pick up pieces of clothing, 16 oz bottles of water, and fix up the cat's blanket on the floor. It is a great help unloading the dryer (fewer lost socks?!?, well maybe not but if you can see it you can grab it). I can use it to move a large glass partly filled with liquid (always leave room for some sloshing around while moving, especially until you get good with using the grabber).You have to get used to where the pressure is placed on an item by the grabber, which usually means with this one the tips of the blue part and with more force the entire blue tip (they bend slightly). They don't point the 'wrong' direction when they are brought together. If the item is large enough in diameter you can use the grabber's ability to encircle it with the part of the grabber proximal to the blue tips.You also must have good hand strength to hold things. If you can't put and keep enough grip strength on the handle of the grasper you won't be able to hang onto anything for very long. It requires grip strength to hold onto things so arthritic hands may struggle. I really like how I can gently pick up something that requires "gentle" like a big cookie crumb (don't want to crush it into smaller crumbs!). Yet I can grab the chain of the ceiling fan and pull it to turn it on, speed it up, or turn it off (this takes a lot of grip strength).All I can do is stress that you have to practice and learn how to use a grabber. I was a highly skilled laparoscopic surgeon who routinely used an assortment of types of grasping tools during my surgical cases so I had a head start. But I believe that anyone can learn with practice and a little patience. I did.I have one in my office (to chase stray papers and paperclips or reach for something that is a little too far away), one in my bedroom (nothing escapes to under the bed), and one in my kitchen (no loose pieces of crunchy cat food on the floor) which gets taken into my laundry room when I need it there.This grasper does what it is supposed to when used properly, and with a "little practice makes perfect". It is not made to pick up the cat (way too heavy) or to pick up something that is large (greater than about 5 inch diameter) unless you can pick the item by an edge or corner.

Perfect length for me. I don't have to bend over! It is a big heavier than I had wished for, as I have arthritic hands, but overall, I am pleased with it.

i ordered this to help me reach leftover Christmas decorations, but after a single use, it fell apart. it snapped, breaking the handle and making it unusable. do not buy this.

1 of these worked as expected. The other broke right away. They did refund my money.Good customer service. Fair quality.
