Old School Sunday Afternoon Film
*No Spoilers* This is an easy Sunday afternoon film, just after a lovely Sunday roast with all the trimmings and an apple and blackcurrant crumble with custard for pudding. It is quite simple in its delivery and does require a little suspension of reality but for its time, it is a decent enough yarn, that is well told. The actual picture quality is not very good in some places, especially when trying to show the glorious Scottish countryside. But in all honesty, these shots are fleeting and will not effect your overall enjoyment of this classic. It is by no means Hitchcock's finest film but it is worthy of a watch if you fancy an old black and white classic for a change.Recommended drink for viewing - whisky or a glass of milk.Recommended snack for viewing - A Cold meat sandwich.Sit back relax and be transported into another time.I do not receive any payment or free goods for writing these reviews. I am just happy to share my views on my purchases with fellow like minded Amazonians in the hope that you may find it helpful.

Very good but puzzling.REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS
This a film by Hitchcock-famous for such unforgettable films as The Birds and Psycho.Hitchcock once wrote that a film should be like life with all the boring bits taken out and there is indeed never a dull moment in this action packed if unlikely film. The hero becomes hancduffed to the heroine so that they cannot get along seperately. a gun turns out to be a pipe, the hero is suddenly able to seek refuge in a public debate(I could swear that this was an idea in the Third man-presumably stolen). At other times he seeks anonymity in a march. But what I really found unbelievable is that the secret information was secreted in the memory man. These memory tricksters were not really owners of an amazing memory-they answered questions from people planted in the audience. It was the stuff of "spiritualiam" left over from the Victorian era.Smoke and mirrors.

The 39 Steps
A classic early Hitchcock movie. ‘The 39 Steps’ focuses on a man in London (Robert Donat) who tries to help an espionage agent (Lucie Mannheim), however when she is killed he has to go on the run to save himself, prove his innocence and stop a spy ring from releasing top secret information. This is easily one of the most entertaining Hitchcock films I’ve seen (haven’t seen too many as I’m working my way through them), from the moment the murder occurs the film is fast paced and doesn’t let up, the train sequence was brilliant and the various locations the film visits and desperation of Donats performance keep you engaged and tense. The performances are very good, Donat and Madeline Carroll (who plays Pamela, a woman he meets on the run) are entertaining double act and have good chemistry. Also the film has a lot of funny and witty dialogue and it is definitely the lightest in tones of the Hitchcock films I’ve seen. The film’s plot is basic which works for its structure but I do wish could’ve had more of his signature twists and turns, the direction is good (obviously) however it is more basic than his later work. As fast paced as the film is is does slow down in the final third and isn’t as tense as the first 2/3rds. However this was an very entertaining spy thriller with some great performances and one that I will watch again in the future.

A Cool Blonde And An Innocent Man On The Run
Iconic Director Alfred Hitchcock's First Foray into The Innocent Man on The run Theme. he would use it frequently Throughout is movies Most notably in North By Northwest but here in his movie The 39 Steps it as never been bettered. Based on The classic John Buchan novel British pin up. Robert Donat is Richard Hannay an innocent man on The run in a case of mistaken identity. This would olso be The first movie in witch Hitch would feature is Trademark blonde Here Madeleine Carroll fits The bill perfectly. like His earlier classic The Lady Vanishes The 39 Steps is filmed beautifully particularly The Scottish scenes with Hannay being pursued Through The Scottish Highlands. The scene were Carroll removes her wet stockings while Handcuffed To Donat is still Quite daring viewing it Today Though its just one of The many Highlights in This splendid movie. The 39 Steps as had various remakes since and all surprisingly Good in Their own right But again Hitchcock's original version remains a shinning example of British cinema at its very best. again like The earlier hit The Lady Vanishes The 39 Steps as been voted into The British Film Institutes all Time Greats British movies. Needless To say This exceptional Blu-ray release is worthy of The classic movie Extras include The superb Documentary Hitchcock The Early years covering all of Hitch's movies made in England along with The early silent classics. a full feature length audio commentary for The movie and stunning behind The scenes and production photos for The film round out a pretty neat package for This charming movie comes Highly recommended.
