Wilkinson Sword 1111168W Ratchet Anvil Pruner-Black

Better than I expected
Had a voucher and was making up an order so I would get free delivery, saw these pruners, and thought to myself, "at just £10, why not?".Lightweight, easy to use, feel robust in the hand, and the best bit... the ratchet makes pruning even tough branches a breeze.I really didn't expect them to be this good. I can use them for getting those thicker branches (up to 20mm) when cutting hedges, and saves me having to cart around my heavy lopers. Cuts very cleanly too, with no ragged chopping marks.Lightweight, so they sit nicely in my pocket, and the strong safety catch means they are safe in there too. Not sure what materials they are made of, but I'm amazed at how light and how strong they are.I've always been more in favour of bypass over anvil pruners, but these are better than any anvil pruners or lopers I've used in the past.I only paid £10 for these, and they are easily one of the best buys I've made for the garden in the past 10 years. Just wish I'd bought them sooner.Quality name, quality product. Going to buy another for my mum, as her grip strength isn't what it used to be, and these will be great for her.The only downside is that due to the manufacturing techniques, none of the parts are serviceable. So, when they're done, they're done, and you'll need to toss them in the recycling bin. I think that's a pity, as many other makes on the market allow for at least blade replacement.

Handy smallish snips that can cut 22mm when needed.
I wanted something cheap, usable and pocket-sized for cutting up material already removed. These are it. Blade seems good enough metal for home use, and the ABS body could last well (catch will come off - all do). I am not comparing with the 35mm cut industrial shears I use for getting branches off - that would miss the point.

Small light weight but excellent thanks to a very effective ratchet.
I purchased these to deal with over hanging branches, brambles and gorse bushes that I encounter when walking my dogs. On receipt I must admit that I was less than impressed as they appeared so small and light. However, I quickly discovered how effectively they cut through small diameter (4mm to 8mm) green wood. What really amazed me was how they dealt with large diameter (10mm to 20mm) brown i.e. dead wood. I have known 2 foot looper that have struggled with this task but not these. Once the ratchet engages it can take up to 3 clicks but they do the job admirably.Just one note of caution. It is very easy to trap the palm of your hand when the ratchet is working. I believe it is the large orange locking “catch” that is responsible for trapping the skin between it and the opposite arm. Best solution is to wear a tough leather gardening glove which is probably a sensible precaution when pruning brambles.

not the quality of old
I expected what i had always expected a quality item that would last for years ,what arrived was a plastic handled bit of tat the blade already rusting. If you hadnt owned decent tools in the past they would be fine but i have and these are not what i would expect from a premier long established company ,i sharpened my old ones up and put these in the drawer a sad tale of a decining company, Henry Nock must be spinning in his grave .Go back to premium goods ditch the tat

Strong, compact, efficient, groovy.
Got these dead cheap from a "Daily Deal". When they arrived, I was initially very sceptical as these pruners are pretty small and feel quite insubstantial in the hand.WOW! Looks are most certainly deceptive! These pruners are easy to use and will dispatch thicker stems etc with relative ease. And as I wasn't expecting much from them, I didn't shy away from cutting things they probably shouldn't have been able to. But time and again, these little pruners have worked a treat, and their compact size makes them easy to use when delving into hedges or large bushes etc to attack branches etc. The ratchet system works well and even with my knackered hand I can comfortably cut through stuff upto 3/4" thick. If and when they ever need replacing, I will buy the same model again, regardless of price, they're that good! (In my humble opinion, of course).
