The Best of Arlo Guthrie

Excellent CD warning this is the Warner Brothers issue from 1977 not the Rhino remaster don't get fooled I gave this CD 5 stars because it's excellent sound qualities well from 77 there you go wish it was remastered don't be fooled but again exclamation thanks for reading peace

I'm an Arlo Guthrie fan but found this disappointing because it included "Alice's Restaurant" in its to-me tedious entirety, leaving not enough space for some of my favorite ballads.

It contains the complete "Alice's Restaurant" plus eight other songs. One of my favorite records.

I bought this album for the song, "The City of New Orleans", which was meaningful from the first time that I heard it. It poignantly portrays a vanishing age of railroading that I have lived through.I also enjoyed the "Alice's Restaurant" song, about an actual event in Arlo's life, recounted in the film by that name.As most Guthrie fans know, Arlo's father died of an inherited disease which Arlo had a 50% chance of getting. Fortunately for Arlo, he missed this deadly arrow, and he has continued in Woody's tradition. For me, listening to Arlo is a celebration of life.

I adore The City of new Orleans, it's just as charming and magical as years ago, although it's the only song I really like. That's sort of like The 3 Dog Night Retrospective , and on that CD I only like Joy to the World , which is adorable.It's totally worth getting this CD just for City of New Orleans, Alice's Restaurant gets a bit annoying at 18 minutes, dealing with Alice's trash, I'd forgotton that part through the years, maybe 3- 4 minutes of Alice's Restaurant, good editing, but the CD is still great fun.

we listen to Alice's Restaurant every Thanksgiving. I got this copy for my Niece.

Some of Arlo's music is "out there" but City of New Orleans alone makes this album worth it.

Bought this for Alice's Restaurant and City of New Orleans which are favorites. Hadn't heard a couple of the other songs and was surprised they were considered "best of's." The sound was clear and crisp, however, and we took off on our last trip singing along with Arlo.

The album starts with Alice's Restaurant: it's as funny, as absurd, as I remember from the first time I heard it. Then there's the pickle song: again, as absurd and funny second time around. If you're too young for Vietnam to be anything but History, you'll still enjoy this..

Only knew "Alice's Restaurant" but the rest of the album is excellent too - apart from "The Pickle" which is laboured.

Worth the entry money for Alice's Restaurant alone. The longest track I've ever heard ridicules the ironic contradictions of U.S. conscription at the time of the Vietnam war. A comedic, hippy anthem, brilliantly done.

The best of Arlo Guthrie lives up to its title. It is an excellent album, and one that I have been thinking about buying for some time. It was worth the wait, and the price.

If you have a sense of humour and appreciate originality, you'll love this.

Frankly this one is worth it just for the classic "City Of New Orleans" A true master at his best.
