Good design but there are other options out there!
This was and still is a good feeder, chickens feed well from it, but I was finding rodent (mice) droppings within the unit.Rodents feed from this system too, I suggest getting a feeding unit that has a levered foot plate that the chickens stand on which then in turn opens the lid to food, so when the chickens are not feeding and all is quiet, the rodents can't feed. Look up "closed chicken feeder" on google and you will see examples, I purchased a model made in New Zealand. "Grandpasfeeders" and it's very well made. Chickens need to be trained up on it, bought the larger model and we have 7 chickens. Also holds alot of food so it keeps dry in wet weather and you have a full hopper of food for when you go away so the neighbours do not have to worry about replenishing the feeder.

It works, but!
The best thing I can say is that it appears reasonably solid and it works. However having spent a lifetime in engineering I can honestly say that the galvanising on this product is the worst that I have ever seen. Whilst it will hopefully not affect the life of the product too much it nevertheless looks atrocious to my critical eye.Another problem is the "top-hat" weather protector. For it to sit level you can only put it on one way, if you put it 180 degrees out it looks like Frank Sinatra's trilby, i.e. cocked over to one sideI have often thought that companies that supply mail order items tend to supply the rejects. This item supports my belief. There is no way that I would have bought this item if I could have seen it before purchase. The only reason that I didn't return it is because we went on holiday a couple of days after receiving it and I had to use it as an additional food source for our flight of doves.

The lid is not easy to fit on and the flow of feed is adjusted by moving the body up and down a metal pole and secured with a bolt. If you do not tighten it enough, the weight of the hopper with the feed in it comes unattached and you spill food everywhere. Other hoppers have a more secure fitting that attaches the body of the hopper to the base. In this case, it feels a bit like carrying round a jam jar by the lid. Not a very sensible design at all. Having said that, it keeps the food dry, and doesn't get kicked over by our chickens. Look elsewhere first.

Not in good condition and one side wasn't adequately welded so came apart on first use. Cover misshapen too. Not a cheap piece of kit so rather disappointed. I expected it to be solidly made but it isn't.

Much better than the plastic version
Much better than the plastic version, although pricey hopefully I won't have to keep replacing this one. The finish is not great and it takes a while to get the hang of the lid but overall very pleased

lid was very easy to put on but found chickens managed to unscrew it so it tipped up and left food part uncovered.0n standing it on bricks and crimping the locking slots now works ok
