I highly recommend Kreg joinery. If you do not know what that is, then watch some of the Kreg videos on a popular video website. These are great screws for use with the Kreg pocket screw system. These 1-1/4 inch "Fine" screws are intended for joining 3/4 inch hardwoods. You want "coarse" screws for joining softwoods. See below for more details on screw types and screw sizes.The Kreg pocket screw jig entirely changed the way I join wood. I no longer use a dado set or a router, I simply set up the jig, drill the pocket holes, and join the wood with the proper Kreg pocket screw. I own the old Kreg K3MS K3 Master Pocket Hole Jig System. The new model is the: Kreg K4MS Jig Master System. If you don't want to spend that much money, try either the Kreg Jig K4 Pocket Hole System or the Kreg R3 Jr. Pocket Hole Jig System. The Jig Master is best if you wish to make a large number of consistent pocket screw holes (for example, if you are building book shelves or kitchen cabinets).To drive these screws, you will need a power drill equipped with a "square drive" bit. Use "Fine" screws in woods such as ash, oak, maple, birch, ash, walnut, cherry, hickory, or mahogany. The "Coarse" Kreg screws are for softwoods and composite materials such as MDF and plywood. Well what can you say about a box of screws. These are actually very good square head screws. They are of good quality and the self-taping feature works very well. It saves you trying to have to drill out a pilot hole on your joined material. A great time saver and I have not noticed any propensity for tear out on reassembly. They may seem a bit expensive but I think they are well worth the price. Use these Kreg fine thread screws for harder woods.

I use these to attach baltic birch cabinets to poplar and or maple face frames. These screws work great through pocket holes without the need for pilot holes.

I use my Kreg jigs almost anytime I build anything. The system makes for a strong joint, I don't miss or run through the other piece of wood and makes a nicer looking job when finished. Much faster than using biscuits or dowel pins in various builds. The real deal is the savings on buying my screws on Amazon over buying them in a store. I always look to saves on products when I can.
