A lot of big, crazy, quality knife for your money.
The media could not be loaded. So, Nox or Noks (Hokc in Cyrillic) is a knife company in Russia that has this madman named A. Biryukhov designing all kinds of big, interesting, crazy fighting knives, which are then manufactured in China. I’m guessing that Huaao is the OEM and have themselves a deal to sell them here on Amazon. I find a lot of their designs rather appealing and have a small collection at this point.Buying them on Amazon has been a bit of a crapshoot. I’ve gotten knives that were perfect quality-wise and others that had awful lockup, metal shavings all over the pivot and missing detent balls. How’s this one (Avatar)? Luckily, it’s thoroughly in the “perfect” camp. Good fit and finish, perfect blade centering, no detent lash, great lockup, nice detent and buttery smooth action.Design wise, it has Nox’s rather unique trademark (no idea if it’s actually trademarked) beefy external pivot secured by a robust flathead screw. The blade locks open using an extra sturdy, large surface engagement liner lock very reminiscent of Cold Steel’s Ti-Life, which can famously withstand 160 pounds of weight pushing on its spine. The blade has three different deployment methods: front flipper, fuller or simply a nice shake to whip it out. Unlike what the product description here claims, there’s no “assisted” (spring) deployment. However, it’s still very much an easy, one-handed deployment knife, helped by the smooth, bearings-riding pivot. The front flipper works well, though the jimping is a bit coarse and rough on your thumbs. Then again, the whole knife is designed as a rugged instrument that’s good for gloved use, as opposed to some girly pocket knife for people with uncalloused fingers. The fuller is a bit slick and not too easy to catch with your thumb. It’s obviously more for a reverse flick or a “tactical grip” kick out and works well for those deployment methods, especially if you encourage the blade with a bit of a wrist flick. In addition, the huge blade, in combination with a not particularly strong detent, allow you to simply give the knife a good shake and whip the blade out that way.Speaking of the blade, it’s enormous and impressive at over 6” long. The grind and finish are both good and the edge came fairly sharp (though I like shaper). There’s obviously a bit of Cyrillic “billboarding” on it, though I find that it actually adds to the presentation. It’s made from the ubiquitous D2 tool steel, which is definitely up to the task when properly formulated and heat treated, especially when it comes to holding a good edge. Time will tell whether I’m dealing with the good kind of D2 here.Like some of my other Nox models, this one doesn’t come with a pocket clip. Honestly, it probably would be too dangerous to carry this knife in your pocket like that. It’s designed for some kind of a case/sheath carry. The handle is obviously designed with foremost a slip-free grip in mind and to works well with gloves. It's a bit rough, though not offensively so. Everything is well chamfered. I find the shape to be rather ergonomic and wieldy for all the common grip styles and manipulations. The thick scales, liner and back spacer make the handle completely solid and free of flex. Speaking of the spacer, it has a paracord sized lanyard hole in it.The heavy(er) duty liner lock works very well, with a secure lockup, combined with good access for disengagement. Considering the size of the blade and lack of a back flipper tab, you do have to be careful when it’s coming down but overall – no complaints. The packaging for this knife is pretty basic but very presentable, with a fairly thick, pull up style of box, with contoured padding inside. The Nox branding is attractive.Overall, I am very impressed with the design and quality of this knife, especially for the money. No idea how the overall QA is, so you might end up with an inferior example. Luckily, Amazon makes exchanges quick and easy in case that you do get lemon. If the design appeals to you (like it does to me), I can heartily recommend getting this crazy knife. It definitely makes me happy. 😊

Very cool, very long knife.
This is a very cool knife. It's apparently some sort of Russian blade being made by a company in China. One look at it and it reminded me of my Lothal I bought a year ago or so. It locks up tight, affords a nice grip, and while it came a smidge dull, it has taken a near razor edge.I gave it 5 stars for those reasons, with the understanding it's a $30 knife. There are a few things to know:1: it's a legitimate 6” blade.2. It opens almost too well. I wouldn't try keeping this in your pocket. The edge wasn't supernsharp on arrival, but it's very pointy. I tightened the screw down as much as I could. Blade doesn't flop out, but it's not super retention either.3. Someone else in the reviews posted video of them using the top of the front like a flipper, which I've never done before, and frankly have not found easy now with the knife. But it inertia opens easily.4. Like that Lothar, no clip. Though even if it had one, I'd think twice before attempting pocket carry.

This knife is amazing
If you havebt purchased one of these knives or any by this company then you,are missing out. This is my second knife from these guys. Impressed 100%. The feel when you get it in your hands is of quality. Good weight, very solid, nothing lose. Then you open the blade, nice firm snap when lock engages. Smooth action. Then grab a sheet of paper do the test (don't use finger might get cut) this thing not only slices paper very clean (not jagged like some that rip) I can even do the small little corkscrews. Like you can take paper and slice it on an angle. Shaves arm hait easily. Handle has excellent grip too. I've notice they're knives arent fancy, just designed well and made great. They just are an all around best bang for your buck. I already have my eyes on the next one I'm definitely going to get next. The size of this one is 12 the one before 10.5. Ok enough with the huge knives I need to get smaller one next. This as self defense, yikes feel sorry for the badguy. I do have one small gripe with this one, wish it had a flipper. The last one had the emerson wave. Kinda got spoiled. Once you've used a knife with the wave you will never want to carry for self defense any other. Faster deployment thN anything ever made. FACTS !

HUAAO BFK
Just got this Russian Avatar. Product description indicates weight including sheath. Mine must have dropped on the manufacturer's floor 'cause I didn't see one in the box. It also says the knife can be opened with one hand. I suppose someone with a REALLY BIG hand could, but not me. That being said, this knife is heavy, big, and very, very sharp. This is not an EDC. It has no clip, but it does have a lanyard hole. This is a great under $30 knife and perfect for hunting elk with your bare hands or just showing people "this big a** knife".

Not an avatar.
I have an avatar, an actual avatar purchased when I was in Russia. First thing, price. An actual avatar, is around $179.00. Second thing. The handle is different. Third thing. An actual avatar, has a pocket clip. Fourth. the blade is different. Notice the profile when closed. Fifth thing. the weight, is MUCH different. This is more closely designed to their cougar or jaguar model. Still a nice knife, just not an avatar.

Lock failure
Had this for a couple of days now and it's already hurt me. While taking a few swings to get a feel for the balance of the knife, striking nothing, the lock failed and the blade closes on my hand. It cut into the back of my index finger. It took 4 stitches to close the wound. Don't buy this. If you have to have a 6 inch folder spend the extra $10 and get a cold steel Luzon instead (the knife on the right). The craftsmanship is all around better and the double safe lock is nearly impossible to force a failure. Much safer choice.
