Lime Mortar was always a mystery to me. No longer. A little technical for a restoration / builder in parts but full of useful information. It has given me confidence to experiment with local sands and aggregates.

technical but lots of useful information to help you understand the benefits of using lime mortar.

Given the size and content the I thought the book should have been much cheaper.The photos and images are black and white and of poor quality.

What a waste of money! I am returning this glossy thesis. 56 of the 84 pages contain "information". The rest is a bibliography. The photos are rubbish and do not show any detail at all - especially the microscopic analysis. The slides did not look any better WITH my glasses on! sorry to be negative but this strikes me as a self serving scientific thesis, of little use to anyone with a practical interest in working with lime. I don't want graphs and out of date lists of suppliers. Admittedly, there are a couple of pages of practical knowledge, but nothing that a FREE 5 minute search on google couldn't throw up - certainly not £18 worth of useful info!!! My thoughts are that this is something written to pass a Masters or PhD or something and not a replacement for passing down knowledge and experience from one professional to another.

short book, had some of the info that I was looking for. After googling, I found that a bit of the info came from various websites online (almost word for word)Lots of charts and content is regurgitated throughout the book.Overall, a good book if you know nothing about lime mortars.

Not quite what I expected. It is very technical. But it does convinces you why limes are the best choice for ecological building.
